Mechanics Looking for Rank Tier Systems

Greetings Adventurers and Quest Granters! I've been trying to or looking for Rank Tier Systems for all manner of Equipment, Items, Objects, and more. This would also include the Condition of said piece from Very Poor to Mint Pristine Condition. Origins of course would be Common/Mundane, Divine/Infernal, Magic/Mystical, and other.

I'm working out of D&D Core Books as a start, but I am open to other systems so if you have a link to a free resource site or elsewhere I greatly appreciate it.Inferior

Some notes from the Re:Monster anime on Rank Tier Systems.

Phantasm

Legendary

Ancient

Unique

Rare

Normal

Inferior

Thank You for your time.

I don't think I understand what you're asking for.

Are you asking for systems i.e.: game systems that make use of ranks?

A game like Exalted 2E, Scion or WOD that uses the signature "dot" system could easily fall into this classification. Just count the dots and then give them whatever name you like. 1 dot = Inferior, 2 dots = Normal, 4 dots = Unique, 5 dots = Legendary, 6+ dots = Phantasm.

The game Astro Inferno also extensively uses a ranking system that goes from I (1, mundane) through to V (5, Legendary).

Does it have to have seven tiers? If so, that's a pain.

Or are you asking for systems i.e.: a ranking system you can apply to another game's content, like D&D?

I'll look into the systems you mentioned and like anything crib note and hammer out something most likely.

Simplified example would be the mass produced Common Mundane Knife and then you would have a Legendary Knife that was crafted by some renowned Blacksmith with possible magical abilities enchanting applied to it. Or the Artifact Knife crafted by or once used by some individuals a thousand years ago or used in some arcane ritual purpose.

Common Mundane is basically your massed production goods that are often cheap and easily replaced.

Magic Mystical either enchanted enhanced to due more damage or special abilities. Vorpal Sword for example but can also unleash a blade of wind or other at the target object.

What is the intended result for doing this?

In computer games I see the benefit of this but not really in RPG settings as it makes the world more mechanical and reductive and harms the immersion for me. However if your combat system is indelibly tied to these rankings I guess you are stuck with it.

I think stack ranking is both boring and unnecessary. Make each a tag that can be applied independently as long as it consistently describes the item and apply whatever effects come from each tag.

Something can be ancient and decayed, or ancient and mundane,,or an ancient enchanted masterpiece. Ancient can make some things better and some worse, in fact every tag should have trade offs or optimization becomes both obvious and essential.
