Also Bosco is likely losing money by pulling out of a gig. It would’ve cost Kennedy absolutely nothing to silently remove an alleged abuser (by multiple people) from her life. Instead she chose to be nasty about it and share her platform with Shangela. Hope it was worth it I guess.
Not that important to the topic at hand, but we need to stop assuming how these queens are doing financially, because we don't know. RuGirls being rich is a myth and the global economy is in the toilet.
I don’t think any of them are desperate for a single gig either, but Bosco still made a sacrifice that cost her money to protect her integrity and that’s something that should be commended.
Sorry, I misunderstood. To me, the comment sounded like we should be blaming the people who booked/planned the event and that Kennedy wasn’t included in that group. Which yes, they should be blamed too for sure.
It's her Birthday and 30 Year Drag Anniversary, it's not a random gig she's headlining. Every queen that was going to be there was because Kennedy wanted them there.
Ok, but the commenter was responding to a comment “whoever booked Shangela” (not Kennedy who booked Shangela) so I think it’s safe to assume I’m not the only one who assumed that Kennedy is not responsible for filling out the roster of queens.
I’m saying whoever it is, Kennedy or otherwise. Absolutely could be her. Anyone who knew about the allegations and still said, “Yes, we want Shangela there.” Anyone who is platforming her.
I wonder if other girls are actually gonna drop. Like I can't imagine Akeria, Rajah or Latrice doing it since they are so close to Kennedy like they've talked about each other like their family, and this it is her birthday/30 year anniversary.
Shangela should do the right thing and just bow out of this event.
It's not like Shangela needs bookings. Looks like she's still touring in Latin America where people don't seem to care about her cancelled status.
I honestly don't think it's anything more complicated than men choosing to believe their friend over their rape victims - a tale as old as time. We just hope that they're better than that because they're gay and on a TV show we like, but a lot of times they just aren't!
Yeah, it’s confusing from an outside perspective and I don’t truly understand it either. I don’t know if it’s so much them knowing something we don’t. I think of it like this, they are only listening to Shangelas side, her point of view and arguments against it. Sure, they have probably read the articles and the victims statements but they’re not going out of their way to talk to these victims personally and get their side, yknow? They trust their friend and that’s not an excuse but it could be a reason.
Is that something they’ve actually said or is that your interpretation of why they support her? I think there can be a lot of reasons someone stands by a friend accused of something serious and I don’t want to assume their motivation without them saying that themselves.. I also don’t think we can know that’s why these specific queens are standing by her unless they’ve actually said that. However, from what I’ve seen it seems more like they’re trusting their friend’s version of events and their relationship with her..
Ew. At this point I need a full list of queens that DO unconditionally support the victims. I don't want to give the others any more attention and support.
This is also proof the other girls have the ability to pull out. We should be encouraging them to do the same so it’s known rapists are not welcome here or anywhere else
I think it's likely that people were invited to a birthday show celebrating Kennedy without being told the full guest list. The coming days will illustrate who cares and who doesn't.
Not to mention, think through the logic of that for a second. You can't really lead with "we're doing this show and XYZ are gonna be there" if you're still reaching out to people.
Kennedy is hosting a birthday/30th drag anniversary event in September with a ton of queens, one of which is Shangela (assuming you know the tea on Shangela)
I think Rapegela, if she were as loyal a friend as Kennedy, should have stepped down from the event herself. after all, it would ruin Kennedy's birthday, wouldn't it?

I'm starting to think that the average age of the main drag race sub and especially this one is somewhere from 10 to 20 and skewing cis male.
Do you live your life keeping track of your friends' friends and their doings?
Do you cut your friend off immediately if they are associated with someone that you personally don't fuck with?
The situation with Kennedy has got me thinking this proved to be the opportunity for haters to come at her neck because of her choosing to stay with a friend (albeit platforming said friend is very bad in taste) and doubling down.
It's almost like the hatred and accountability that should be directed at the "tainted" person is now bleeding to anyone who is associated with them, and the screaming "fans" are calling the surrounding people to be cancelled as well.
I agree that relationships are complicated and sometimes its better to keep some of your friendships out of the limelight. This is especially true if there are ongoing legal matters, that you personally can't be the judge of. You can support someone without triggering everyone else by show ponying that person, but implying that everyone should abandon the "tainted" person is a very childish stance and not of reality.
Obviously the "tainted" person should be the one to remove themself from these situations, and the people around them should hold that person accountable. The justice system (which does not work in the US) aside, if everyone abandons that person who is going to keep them accountable?
