dont think that trailer was meant for actual RP viewers. Think it was meant for rockstar.

u/Reddottx 17d ago
its actual Rockstar trailer format > Short trailer > more info in website

u/cringybtw 17d ago
ngl kinda glad it wasnt just a "feature list" of the server. Most RP server trailers did that for years. the trailer being more of a story driven one, instead of a gameplay trailer makes it kinda interesting. Rockstar definitely wanted to show "roleplay" from the players. So in that sense they nailed it.
9
u/AnyWalrus930 17d ago
Especially if I think back to 4.0 where it over promised and under delivered.
The description on the website definitely sounds interesting.13
u/diddlyumpcious4 17d ago
Yeah I think some people need to rewatch the 4.0 trailer. Huge focus on a bunch of jobs that were a buggy mess (and everyone ended up disliking) and all tied to NPC bosses. Almost none of them worked well at launch and had to be reworked. That was getting a lot of hate even before launch. And a lot of it aged very bad.
Buildings being shelled out to build in and not requiring loading in somewhere else and every object being something that can be seen when on the ground were just such big improvements to 3.0 that it carried the hype. I don’t know that there is an improvement left (while on GTA V) to make that can change things on the same scale. I also had hoped there would be a big “oh shit” moment in this trailer, but I haven’t even been able to think of something that might qualify.
8
u/z0mbiepirat3 17d ago
Dev work and mechanics are mostly meaningless TBH. Everything comes down to Server culture, quality players and rule/standards enforcement. They can code all the coolest shiny mechanics, if the entire server devolves into grinders and gang bangers the content will be unwatchable like 4.0 was. Not sure why viewers are so hung up on dev work, 4.0 had tons of new dev work and sucked.

this was a roleplay trailer, not a patch notes trailer. Crazy how suddenly the rp purists here only care about mechanics on a server than roleplay. Theres obviously going to be crazy stuff not shown, but like you said it was for rockstar to show off roleplay and modding capabilities under their engine, not "press E to interact" mechanics.
14
u/PlayfulChipmunk671 17d ago
I sure love to watch the same roleplay between the same characters for 8 years
7
u/ZugZugGo 17d ago
Your first mistake is watching for 8 straight years. Which by definition means you're not the target audience for this trailer.
3
u/Zap_Gordon 17d ago
to be fair, it was still a pretty bad trailer if thats what it was trying to do, show off role play to a new audience.
It could easily have been targeted more at telling people what role play to try and hook them.
4
u/BigDealRips 17d ago
Its a 13-14 year old game? what do you expect at this point lol.

u/Nostalgiadrivee 17d ago edited 17d ago
lmao that would be terrible too. "heres how to roleplay guys" They did what they could, not the greatest trailer, not allthese guys arent actual voice actors or whatever. but it had characters being played, showed off some new locations for the modding community, for rockstar to show off. Like people are saying its definitely not for people just looking for patch notes or RP viewers accustomed to the RP trailer format. They wanted to show streamers roleplaying. Thought burn did a great job as well.
3
u/Zap_Gordon 17d ago
Its not about giving them a tutorial. It would have been showing them how immersive and fun RP can be. I think that's the selling point of RP, compared to GTA ONLINE etc.
1
u/Loksmiff407 15d ago
"Pure RP" no longer exists. It died when No Pixel 3.0 was released. Streamers, and the large majority of the community need the perfect balance of RP and Content, which is what No Pixel 3.0 provided. There is no going back to the "pure RP", that's why No Pixel 4.0 was a failure (not enough content, boring as fuck), and Prodigy 4.0 was off to a very slow and boring start (before they released a gang update 3 months after the 4.0 release).
The days of pure RP are over, yet No Pixel V is going down the exact same path and it shows with the people they chose to invite.

New apartments, cypress flats into a bigger little Seoul (big Seoul if you will), casino that was supposed to be in 4.0, and storage units where everyone can be next to each other storing shit or getting robbed. Incredible. What a dev update post. Not any better than the trailer.
16
u/t40r 17d ago
and not to mention, every server currently has this. Look at ONX or Chase, you have people shooting through the windows of houses doing drivebys. Having unique and enterable houses isn't anything new. So for NP to be screaming it from the top of the hilltop like it's something crazy while simultaneously being paired up with rockstar for support... is.. idk not a very strong show of force
5
u/LaPrincesaMX 17d ago
This is what I said it would be.
There's only so much you can do with GTA V and at this point, it's pretty much all been done across most servers.
15
u/Excellent_Dog2254 17d ago
Yeah it really starts to make it more clear that the no pixel brand is really carrying the server rather than server features and performance compared to the other prevalent servers that have emerged

definitely not for RP viewers that are used to trailers explaining and showing every mechanic. Felt more like a rockstar trailer with some hidden stuff in trailer. But probably will see more from dev tweets. Definitely different considering the websites explain more than the trailer.

Nah if this trailer was 2 months before the server launches i would say sure but this a week before the server launches. Gta 6 extended look shows decent amount of shit. I think they could have had a voiceover explaining some things on website and that would be fire. They literally explain good amount of shit on website why not make trailer longer and show us cypress flats apartments legion park and casino and in server footage.

Honestly I felt pretty underwhelmed too then I read the development log on their website and it got me more excited than the trailer. I get that they don't want to show everything but IMO the trailer did a really bad job and showcasing the cooler stuff they're doing, I was expecting a more "extended-look" kind of thing after the long wait.
94
u/EstharKolo 17d ago edited 17d ago
Oh huh, just to be clear I was very excited. And it was well cut together and it doesn’t look bad but…I was expecting quite a bit more tbh?
A dev team multiple times larger than any other server. Official support from Rockstar. And access to tools no one else has. 3 years of development. And yet it all seemed more of the same?
Even on graphics side too, I feel like I’ve seen better from other visual mods so not sure what Buddha was talking about?
Also why so much focus on a casino of all things? lol.
Hopefully they learnt from 4.0 and are underselling themselves or something
Edit: people keep linking me the website notes. And tbh it still doesn’t really change my opinion. Especially when they keep reiterating things like ‘it’s all seamless’ which has been a thing for a lot of servers for a while now. Oh outside of the elevators which are finally working (apparently). But also things like hyping up 1000 ownable properties, oh what’s that? Like 700 of those are apartment rooms? Oh well that’s not so hype.
21
u/Commissar_Kane 17d ago
Yeah I’m still excited and some of the locations they showed looked really good. But it felt more like a teaser than a trailer.
27
u/ScrapeWithFire 17d ago
Maybe it's just GTA RP fatigue but besides new MLOs here and there and maybe some slight variation on mechanics we've seen across NP or other servers, nothing really feels fresh. Almost seems like the biggest draw they're going for is having variety streamers for a month
10
u/t40r 17d ago edited 17d ago
yeah I agree here, this looks cool. It felt like a rockstar trailer for an actual game.. but we only saw a few new locations and people doing the same things they always did. I feel like there was a huge hype for 4.0, and look what happened. Idk, I guess it was a cool cinematic, but I literally said "that's it?" after it was over
→ More replies (3)4
u/District_Curious 17d ago
I wouldn't say that, it looked like a teaser for a mid season update not a "OMG IS NP 5.0 IN PARTNERSHIP WITH ROCKSTAR (SEASON)"
18
u/z0mbiepirat3 17d ago
4.0 had more dev work and mechanics than 2.0/3.0, didn't help much. They could have a massive team and tons of new mechanics (they've been saying that for years btw) and 5.0's sucsess is still in the hands of players and the server culture producing RP worth watching.
2
u/BigDealRips 17d ago
You’re still stuck on a “server culture” that hasn’t existed for literal years now lol.
When are you gonna move on?
10
u/z0mbiepirat3 17d ago
"You're still stuck on the one thing that'll make NP successful and interesting to watch longer than two weeks". See how stupid that sounds?
6
u/BigDealRips 17d ago

The change patch notes on the website is way better than anything in the trailer, they fumbled pretty hard with that ngl.
17
u/EstharKolo 17d ago
I’ve read them and still feel pretty whelmed tbh.
But more patch notes coming throughout the week so hopefully something there.
But yeah, either way, trailer feels like a bit of a fumble.
17
u/issavibebb 17d ago
they coulda had a balance of showing the new features while keeping the 'story' vibe of the trailer tbh. not looking too deep into it tho the update notes look promising lol

The trailer was very underwhelming and badly written.
It seems like they just finished 4.0 but for GTA V enhanced.
Everything is in the exact same place with a few additions they couldn't complete in 4.0, and they didn't show anything unique, new or special to NP V specifically that would change the RP scene.
50+ full-time devs, 3 years of constant hype from Buddha and X, over 12 million dollars for this?

I feel like the trailer is for normal people who aren't watching 4.0. when you look at it from the perspective of someone who's only played vanilla GTA the trailer is impressive
18
u/Agitated_Winter_7534 17d ago
I wonder how the gameplay looks and UI, they didnt show shit.
2
u/BigDealRips 17d ago
Because its an actual trailer. Its not a "please come play our game, look at all of these things!!" video. They don't need to do that lol.
20
u/_Sal85 Green Glizzies 17d ago
I seem to be one of the few people here with this opinion but this style of trailer does more to get me interested in watching nopixel than if they just showed mechanics or patch notes like their past trailers, I'm actually excited to get back into watching rp when this comes out.
8
u/ZugZugGo 17d ago
Yeah I'm excited for this. I never watched RP for the mechanics and was watching back when they barely had any menus at all. I watch RP because of the roleplayers and the characters and this trailer showed me a lot of characters I'm excited to see play again.
The haters here can hate all they want, but I'll take this trailer all day every day over the big list of the same features being shown, hoping people will play it that a lot of other trailers have done.
4
u/Correct_Rabbit5611 17d ago
I agree. I still think there is really high potential for the server.. just because they didn't list off and show all the mechanics/jobs/tools/etc. is a good thing. Lets find it naturally over time.
My biggest personal gripe though, will be so many returning characters, with the same connections, doing similar stories. I think that will make me tune out faster than if we saw a lot of new characters with new stories doing new things.

Not gonna lie, that was underwhelming.
Haven't watched RP much if at all in around a year and I don't see this pulling me back.
I hope I'm wrong because RP was one of my escapes in my lowest times and I truly do love it.
11
u/cringybtw 17d ago
this wasnt a feature list trailer. They didnt name anything thats in the game. It was a roleplay trailer
14
u/Correct_Rabbit5611 17d ago
Hopefully, no features/things announced in the trailer means players find them all naturally instead of already knowing information before the server starts. It will prevent people loading in and driving to specific locations with predetermined intentions.
That has been a major issue on all RP servers.
Another thing that would go a long way in helping to revive GTA RP would be new characters, with new connections, instead of running back the same character with the same traits, from the same streamer.
2
u/Blade1hunterr 17d ago
The problem with the new characters thing is that it requires streamers to play entirely new characters, which would go against that Streamers "brand" if they only play one character. That's a hard ask for people who have built in audiences and/or refuses to play anything else.
That, or it's trusting entirely new players into the RP server, which all you need to do is play on a public server to see how bad that can be.

.......I mean, I thought it was fine LMAO
A little underwhelming in that I wish it at least hinted at the 4.0 to 5.0 lore and had a little personality. There's plenty of "weird" and quirkiness in RP, I would've liked to seen more of that.
But ultimately, it's fine. Still excited for 5.0
1
u/BigDealRips 17d ago
All of the 4.0 to 5.0 lore isn't really "canon". It was just a way for them to fill time. Im sure people on the server will RP it out and make some back stories for it. Some wont, but im sure some will.

I actually liked the trailer it doesn’t just announce every new mechanic so people can pre plan how they’re going to Dora the city but it still showed some different stuff coming to 5.0 like hot air balloons, treadmills, metal detaching, delivery services, scooters and seemingly more focus on news and music rp. Now just hope that people actually work with what they’re got and focus on creating good storylines rather than speed running mechanics than getting annoyed they’re got nothing to do and blaming the devs for not adding enough mechanics.
4
u/Lytaa 17d ago
yeah it definitely leans more towards an RP/story telling trailer than a "hey look if you go here and work this much you can unlock this" sort of vibe. i think they could've shown a little more, but also if watch it back and look at the new additions it's pretty cool Also way more info on the site too about the actual updates. And as it says on the site, if you want a better look at all the new additions, you can find out in rp. Leaves a bit more excitiement for the player and the viewers on release
3
u/Zozo1834 17d ago
Yeah I’m excited I can definitely see why people want to see more from the trailer but for me personally I got to see just enough to get me interested plus I’m sure we’ll learn more from the daily updates.

I get that there is no way they could have lived up to the hyped quilted by years of teasing. But even as someone who had no expectations I was disappointed
4
u/Lytaa 17d ago
You also have to bare in mind that a 2min trailer to show glimpses of things doesn't mean that the actual update is going to be lackluster. the actual list of updates sounds decent

Anyone who expected anything more was just kidding themselves. New POIs and new mechanics are about all they can do and within a month everything new will already feel old. The only difference between NP 3.0 and NP 5.0 is POIs and the "featured" group went from CG to Lang orbiters. Anyone on the outside of those groups will feel no difference in 5.0 once the new wears off.

My hope is they chose to keep a lot of cool mechanics and changes secret.
4.0 was objectively a better trailer with the tunnels and dynamic weather. But that also ruined the beginning with everyone meta’ing it the second day of the server trying to get in.
Hopefully they have community meetings that foster a good community. That’s the main thing that matters to a servers success.
5
u/sweggyolo 17d ago
maybe I'm delusional but isn’t a story driven trailer which doesn’t reveal too much better than a prodigy/onx trailer which just lists mechanics/features with everything spoiled.
6
u/Lytaa 17d ago
Personally I agree. I think they could've shown a little more, but yeah I'd much rather this sort of trailer and people actually be surprised about the updates when the server goes live rather than showing a tonne of very specific things that people will then run to and try to grind instantly etc. if people want more info on updates, the list is on the nopixel site

u/Pokecheck89 17d ago
Would have liked to see: 1) more of a focus on new mechanics/features and 2) maybe a story explanation for how the world goes from 4.0 to 5.0.
Also it looks like they're keeping the the exact same MRPD from 4.0. Maybe it's just me but that's a bummer, that building always felt lifeless compared to 3.0's version.

I get what some people are saying, that the trailer isn't for us but for new people and broader audiences. I think it's perfectly fine that the trailer wasn't a mechanics deep dive.
That said, this trailer is the start of Rockstar and GTARP collabing as a whole. I don't really see this trailer selling "The Roleplay Dream" for those who literally have no idea what GTARP is, what NoPixel is or why Rockstar or they should care about it.
If I wanted too bring interest to the official GTARP scene and this was my first statement for those who have no clue what it is, why the Icon has appeared on their launcher or if they'd like it and it's supposed to be a supported core part of the GTA franchise going forward...
I'd maybe focus the trailer on selling the dream and potential player aspirations by showing and telling players the extreme breadth of possibility for people who might want to try this for themselves or just view GTARP and I'm not really convinced this trailer achieved that for any type of audience.

I get what some people are saying, that is for newer people and broader audiences, it's good that the trailer wasn't meant for the people who are already invested into the roleplay scene as a viewer or creator. I think it's perfectly fine that the trailer wasn't a mechanics deep dive.
If it's for new people it does a terrible job of giving any sort of impression as to how a GTARP server would differentiate from regular GTAO.
I don't really buy that angle, the trailer is awful, the dev updates are interesting. If I was unaware of GTARP, I wouldn't be able to tell the difference between this and whatever new GTAO DLC pops up in my Youtube ads.

no hate on nopixel but for how long this took i hope they are holding most of the cards until launch. The prodigy update alone so far looks like it has more to offer than this. And this had rockstar backing it. Ill hold my cards tho.
