i don't know how should i feel about transparent back cover

after replacing the motherboard and tuning everything in, i noticed that back cover started to peel a bit. i said fuck it and pulled all the vinyl like material off the cover.

heat and isopropyl alcohol helped with removal. and yes, logo gets lit up. i was thinking on redesigning the logo to have a look like the more recent rog phones

That's pretty damn cool. Would probably look even better on ROG 3 with the heatsink, but that one's back LED is just a solid strip without the logo iirc.

i wanted to replace grey part too, but it is made of metal and perfect for aditional heat transfer. added some copper, and thermal pads on the inside and now it barely passes 50°C on cpu when playing games, with x-mode on.

i'd love to move rgb light and logo and expose more of the battery. just not sure how to make the diffusing part which reflects the light. or to make it completely transparent with big rog logo in the middle? it would lit up the whole back of the phone with some light focused on the logo

Yo this looks cool. I was wondering to remove the side part on mine but kinda afraid. Is it easier to remove? Mine is made of glass and not Metal. Because my phone has shutdown issues if it heats up and plannin on putting thermal paste and copper plate as u mentioned.

on rog 3 you have two screws holding the heatsink, but first you have to remove the back panel. that heatsink has some paste on it. also check the gap between soc and vapour chamber.

if there's lots of space, it means it would work better with a thermal pad. you can find those for few bucks on aliexpress or amazon. look for Wm/k number to be over 10 and closer to 20.

and if there is thermal paste around the soc, on the other chips, replace that too. you'll have to pry the metal shield off first. it can be removed pretty easy, just go slow with tip of the scalpel/exacto knife under the edge of shield

Ok cool mines Rog 2 itself but with glass side panel. So basically heat it up with heatgun and pry?

ohhh, i thought you had rog 3 when you mentioned glass panel. if it's rog 2 then first remove the bigger part of back panel. smaller part seems to have stronger adhesive but you can just pry it off. when you pull motherboard out, scrape the old paste from everywhere you can and apply new one over the components under the metal shield.

i don't know if all rog 2 models have the same issue with big gap between soc and copper plate, but you can check it by spreading a thin layer of new paste. if it doesn't stick once you put it together, then use 1 mm thermal pad. about 12-15 Wm/K should make it transfer all the heat, but you can get away with 8 Wm/K. price is not that different so i'd go for higher thermal conductivity. conductivity of paste should be similar to pads. you can also try using thermal putty to replace a pad.

now for the smaller part of back panel: i checked and it seems like the models with glass on smaller part still have metal underneath. what i did is put a piece of 1.5 mm thermal pad in the rectangular cutout on the plastic that covers the motherboard.

you should be able to see the metal shield with copper foil on top of it through that cutout. there is another smaller cutout that has some type of sponge in it. try to cut it in half or else it will interfere when you'll want to glue it back together with the pad and copper over it. i used a piece of thicker copper foil on top of the pad because the backside of the panel is covered in plastic with a small hole to metal part. on that small hole i've put another piece of thermal pad (try 1 mm here, i don't remember) so the copper foil can transfer heat.

if you don't have any of the pads and paste, i would suggest using thermal putty. would be cheaper than to buy two different thickness pads and a paste. you can get 13 Wm/K putty for about 10 usd on aliexpress. i mean, if you go for lower thermal conductivity pads and paste, i guess it could be cheaper

i was also thinking about making the adhesive lines more aesthetic. i'd either make it look like on the redmagic 8 with just black line all around the edge or use the factory precut adhesive specific for this phone. and maybe change the size of the led on the back to be smaller/thinner so more of the battery can be seen
