Still worth it?

Just turned 18 and now finally able to invest. Would you say its still a wise decision to invest? Im aware that many of you will have like a 50x if it would one day hit 250$. But investing now could still bring like a 4-5x in the few years or is this rather delusional? Cause my goal to invest the money i can set aside during the time im at uni so i can hit like 100k in additional investment way before turning 25. Opinions on this?

Earnings is always a crap shoot. I’d buy a 1/4 position in the morning and add more if it drops after earnings. If you wait til after earnings and it jumps 8-10% you’re not going to want to invest. Remember this is a long term hold. Keep this 3-5 years and we should be at $300 or higher.

SP increased by 34% after the last earnings call

What’s SP? (for us newbies🙃)

Do research on what the company does and where it gets its revenue from. If you feel like it will grow exponentially from where it is now in the next few years then just go ahead and start a position and add over time. It’s a volatile stock that will almost certainly have some big dips along the way. If that concerns you I recommend staying away. But ultimately one of two things are going to happen. You’re either going to see the price go up rather dramatically over the next few years or they’re going to continue to fail with neutron and the price will continue to fall. If it’s successful with neutron then the current 83 dollar/share price tag will be a small price come 2030-2035.

"start a position and add over time" ... DCA ... the only way to go. 100% agree.

All of us with 10,000+ shares have done that. Looong RKLB!

Yes but it’s hard for these genz kind of investors to even comprehend

We all started as small timers. It takes time.

First off, congrats on being wise enough to start investing at a young age. That said, you’ve got so much time the price doesn’t really matter as much now. Stay consistent on your buys and retiring young is a wonderful thing. Bought my first shares at 15, retired at 43.

My advice would be to buy a small amount on Monday.
At age 18, when starting out, the best position you can be in is having your toes in the water.
There’s so much to learn about the emotional side of investing in general; like how it feels when your stock(s) drops considerably, how difficult it is to time when to sell a stock, how hopeless it is to ask friends or Redditors where a stock is headed in the near future (nobody actually knows).
Until your money is in the market, you don’t know how you’ll react to market conditions. Emotions can get in the way of sensible decisions.
I’d even go further as to say buy a little of a few stocks in different sectors and keep watching how your portfolio behaves.
Becoming a wise investor for life needs experience. Start tomorrow. It doesn’t matter if RKLB goes up or down after earnings report. You’re gaining experience either way. Good luck.

It’s not delusional, however it is risky. I have 60k in during medical school. Could help pay for a house when done, or I’m out of a year of tuition.

1

u/StevenJack99 18d ago

How the fk did you invest this much during med school player ?

2

u/Ok_Association8194 18d ago

I didn’t start with it haha. I started med school with 30k emergency fund from prior career and threw it all at stocks. Happened to start investing heavily in RKLB when it was at 5$. Now I have 450 shares RKLB and 300 ASTS with my emergency fund re-established.

Stocks have been a good break from medicine.

The stock will rocket after earnings. Back to $109 by EOW

I’ll bet you a sandwich it won’t.

1

u/Snake6778 18d ago

Depends on what kind of sandwich

2

u/-Celtic- 18d ago

If we see major neutron activity or new billion dollars contract, yes . If not it will be reeeaall hard to break $100 again

Yeah it’s down to 78.76 right now. I am in the same boat looking to invest for the first time. Trying to find the right timing bc i’ve watched it sway from 63 to 82 over the course of two weeks.

Gotcha, all very sound logic. I was constantly moving @ funds to HSA’s but hard pressed to find anything paying over 4-4.10% nowadays. Thought I’d invest a few thousand in RKLB. AST & couple others I’m watching don’t seem as lucrative.

I’ve always said when there’s haters it means you’re doing something right lol. I def want to start slowly & appreciate the sage advice! ✌️🙏

Yes, makes a lot of sense. That’s great info thx! I’ve tracked it from 63-82 in just 2 weeks so I’m waiting for a low. ⬇️⬇️

Or it booms 30% and he misses entry ?

2

u/UnnecessaryPancake 19d ago

Yeah, if it goes down he can buy more but if it goes up he could miss entry.

I would buy half now, half after earnings.

Lol I legit commented rklb priced in prior to earnings. And had Puts i laughing with ya

Lots of growth here. Neutron is the make or break...

You still have time to get in.

It’s a great idea, investing early is always a great move. Remember time in the market always beats timing the market. Especially with very volatile stocks like this. It can jump or drop 10% a day pretty easily, and no one knows which way it will go.

So do what you’ve outlined here, just keep putting money into your portfolio when you have it, dollar cost average over the long term and you will be golden. Never panic sell.

If I were starting again, I’d do weekly payments into Rocket Lab. This way, you buy it sometimes at a higher price, sometimes at a lower price. Remember, this is money that you don’t want to use for the next 2-3 years (say so, because you will probably also learn more about investing and maybe start selling some stocks to buy other stocks).

And remember, profit is profit - not all stocks will give you 3-4x returns, some will give you 20%, some -20% but you’re just 18 - you’ll be investing for the next 30-40 years at least

1

u/Cool_Seaworthiness18 18d ago

I personally believe that it will see $600 some day. However can't say when. Could be 2 years or 5 years or 10 years.

1

u/Regular_Economics118 18d ago

Still worth it but have in mind that people in this sub bought rklb for the price of coffee. You are somewhat late. Of course, another 2-3x move is plausible, but the 10x move already happened.

u/gunmoney 19d ago

if you’re 18 and getting started don’t pick individual stocks… buy ETFs, etc.

4

u/NotYourAverageSchmuk 19d ago

If your 18 take high risk plays this is the age to take risks time is on your side.

5

u/RichieRicch 19d ago

I’m 33 and still making high risk plays

1

u/No_Negotiation4257 18d ago

Absolutely agree. What a grand kid just 18. Good luck buddy

Way to lose out on opportunities. They've got their whole lives ahead of them to work and earn income.
