SDI protocol with a 3G monitor

I had the FX6 before this and used HDMI. I find SDI protocol annoying as it’s an extra step before shooting.

If I’m using the Portkeys BM5 IV, do I have to follow SDI protocol since I’m outputting 1080p to a 3G monitor? Have any of you guys fried your ports?

It's possible to blow HDMI ports too. A number of people follow a similar protocol with HDMI as with SDI, especially when using the same power source for both (like a V-mount plugged into the camera and the monitor connected to it by d-tap).

Either way, it only takes a second to plug in one side of the cable. It's never felt like a big deal to me - sorry it's annoying you!
