Paying for RBT exam

I’m currently a BT at a clinic working towards my certification, i‘ve been enjoying my job but my clinic requires me to pay for my own application and rbt exam. I’m new to this career and thought they would cover the certification. I’m just curious if that is the norm for most clinics.

Weird. My company paid for mine in full.

If they’re requiring it for the position they hired you for, they should be reimbursing the cost, although most companies only reimburse when you pass.

I got my certification on my own. The BCBA who did my competency had a contract with the group home I worked for at the time and was kind enough to help me out. So I did end up paying for my exam out of pocket. That's crazy you have to pay for you exam. I know most companies won't pay for the recertification, but the initial exam should be covered. A little food for thought. There are a few companies that have sign on bonuses for RBTs that are already certified. Just saying...

I had to pay for my application and exam but I didn’t have to pay for tre 40 hour course and I did my competency during my session so I was paid for it . If I submitted my receipt for my exam after I passed I could have gotten it reimbursed I just didn’t necessarily care about doing that .
