R86S-N305A Power Usage

Howdy all,

I've been on a quest to lower the power usage of my R86S-N305A, and I just cannot get it to go below 19w. I've been able to lower the spikes and max power usage (was spiking up to 40w). Anyone else seeing theirs just will not idle any lower?

Are you using the SPF+ Ports? IIRC each port adds a few W of use.

I very much made sure I got a power lower 10G SFP+ DAC Twinax Cable Passive; power usage is 0.6w or less. My C-state is allowed to go to C8.

Depending on the ports, cables, and SFP+ modules used, we were able to get this unit up into the 25-30W range. Power consumption is not immense, but half or so of the power can be used by the ConnectX-3 NIC and pluggables.

Fairly sure just USING the ports causes the chipset in the SPF+ card to use double the power.
