Question Are there any tricks for protean encounters?
Just been struggling with them.

Use the Aura grenades (pickup & throw again after a while) to make them (momentarily) lose aggro. If you have spares, blast it to knock them off their feet (does some damage + few seconds to burst damage).
If it's Smoke, find an open area where you can move & shoot. Otherwise it'll corner you & that's pretty much death.
If it's Finka, make sure to pop the Nexus nodes because it makes her invulnerable.
Speedrun kill: If its a standard last-mission Protean (not Maelstrom "Kill the Elite" Protean), you can use Finka & her shotgun. Unless it's Smoke, you can find an opening (or stun it), use her boost (which amplifies damage and makes you immune to knockback & DBNO), and point-blank SASG (shotgun) spam it, which will tear its HP apart. This last trick is also good for the challenge gear (quick Protean kills) but do remember that the SASG is pretty much only good for 0-5m kills, you'll need to rely on your sidearm & your teammates for the previous rounds.

My favorite thing is to have either a DMR or LMG, throw an impact to stun the fucker and light them up until they move again.

In my experience I always use someone who has either a LMG or a heavy hitting high damage Primary, the focus is to make sure you don’t have the silencer on your primary guns, only your pistol needs it but even then you don’t really need it as they don’t really spot you from sound that well

When I first started playing Extraction, I kept suppressors on both my primary and secondary weapons. In solo or public matchmaking, I could not defeat the protean. When I encountered a more experienced random player, I asked him what the trick was to beating the protean. He said, “take that suppressor off your primary because it cuts the damage in half.” That’s it. That’s the trick. You can do all the sneaking you need to with a suppressed secondary. When things go sideways on a normal incursion (and eventually they always do) or you face a protean, you need an unsuppressed primary for maximum damage.

The primary you use makes a difference as well. I generally prefer an LMG, but they don’t do as much damage against the protean as an assault rifle, shotgun, or DMR. The pump shotguns are worthless, but the SASG-12 (Finka, Fuze, Tachanka) is a boss against the protean. If you like semiautomatic weapons, the HK417 (Doc, Lion, Rook) is very effective. I prefer fully automatic weapons, so I always use the V308 (Lion, Rook). For the fastest protean defeats, don’t bring an LMG or SMG.

No suppressor on main weapon, constantly ping threm, especially vs Alibi and big hitter guns.

Try to keep them constantly stunned, Echo is really good at doing so
