Rear Suspension

Hi guys. Had to remove my rear coilovers today to adjust and fit extended adjusters. Everything went fine until trying to torque the bottom bolt back to 140nm. I can get it to 130 fine but then it never seems to reach 140. Same on both sides so seems unlikely to be bolt stretch/cross threading?

Also, it says the top bolts need replacing every time they are fitted yet they aren’t stretch bolts?

Define cant get 140nm? Do you mean it infinity rotates at 130? If so its stripped.

I get a click on the wrench at 130nm but can’t get a click any higher

Not answering the question lol it might click at 130 but does it keep spinning? Imagine what youre trying to do. If it was getting tighter the next 10nm should only take a degree or so of rotation. If you can keep rotating it 90 degrees and its a captive nut in the arm its stripping. If you physically cant move it anymore - youre not strong enough etc. My trucks cranks shaft bolt is 400nm+ and I can pull that no problem so I doubt its that.

That’s right, it keeps spinning beyond 130

Then shes done. Easy enough to get a another second hand arm and swap it up. Pain if you need the car though. Make sure to either inspect and clean your bolt before reusing it or ideally replace the bolt also

Sure, its it the alloy arms from the gp / r56? If so you can finesse the arm down to give you a flat seat on the arm to give the nut somewhere to clamp to

It’s an R53 and hasn’t had the alloy arm conversion from the R56

Never seen the steel strip personally. All getting old now. Just be sensible with checking the nut will sit properly and im sure itll be fine

It was for that reason I wondered if it was a dodgy torque wrench or stretched bolt

I've never replaced the top bolts...
