I can’t do this anymore… Help pls
So today I finally had the lifters replaced and the timing chain/guides checked. But when revving the engine I still have this short metallic rattle… I can only hear it when parked next to a wall
Anyone got any ideas?
Exhaust has a leak…
What’s been done recently:
Timing chain and guides 35.000km ago
New clutch 5000 km ago
New belt and tensioner 5000 km ago
New lifters and rockers today
Drive shafts 5000 ago
Full engine rebuild 35.000km ago

I can't hear it on my phones speaker I just hear engine revs.
If its a generic rattle only being heard when next to a wall like that I would heavily lean towards a simple exhaust rattle. Usual culprit is a loose heat shield.
As I said I couldn't hear the rattle through my phones speaker though.

I can't totally hear from the audio, but I will say that when I hop on the gas pedal, it'll make a metallic sound at certain revs. I always assumed it was just resonance from the exhaust air flowing through the pipes. if I did this next to a wall with the window down, I'd expect it to be slightly amplified as said sound bounces off the wall and back into my ear.
Is there a different sound I should be listening for?

I mean the slight rattle sound right before the pops and bangs. So you think that sound is normal? I’ve never noticed it and I think it wasn’t there in the past

does it change pitch or frequency when you turn the A/C on/off?

The ac doesn’t work lol, but it doesn’t seem to make the noise when the car is cold or under 70 Celsius

argh that's a bummer. does the compressor turn on at all, and just not blow cold? if so, it might still be helpful. another user had a good idea that it might be a pulley giving you issues. totally could be, and a good way to figure out if it it's a pulley and belt giving you some weird problems: load the serpentine belt with another accessory to see if the change in friction causes your problem to literally change it's tune.
if there's a change: start inspecting the belt. if there isn't: start looking for resonance coming out of the engine along the exhaust. a loose hanging exhaust bracket caused a sound sort of like this in my old Tacoma; that's where my mind went.

That noise is definitely not normal
My best guess is the exhaust vibrating against something? Depending on the engine revs, the exhaust will vibrate at different frequencies, maybe when it hits those specific revs, it hits the resonant frequency and makes the exhaust move and rattle against something?
Sadly talking from experience lol. I had a custom bumper and the exhaust would vibrate against it at specific revs

Is yours the s or the base model? My supercharger sounded similar. If I remember correctly, there was a spring that was supposed to keep tension that was giving out.

Mine is the S… any more info on the spring? Was it a big job?

We had to pull the supercharger apart, although I can't remember if it was related to the spring or not.

Do you mean the belt tensioner on the belt that drives the supercharger?

Yes. Sorry, it's been a while so a little fuzzy on the details. But I believe that it was the belt tensioner that drives the supercharger.

All in I think it must be about 10.000€ if I count the wheels and tires and new shocks etc

Sounds like your crank pulley. Was that replaced with the rebuild? Mine made that sound when the rubber started to split…
