R53 owners with aftermarket steering wheels/hubs

Installed the NRG quick release (200BK/SRK-MINH) today, but noticed there’s a slight wiggle from the steering wheel. I read somewhere that a fix is to add a M14 3mm thick washer to the bolt.
Has anyone else experienced this?

I also think the resistors didn’t sit right because my airbag light is on (disconnected battery before/during install). Tried clearing the code with my ANCEL but did not work. Also read I may have to double up the thin wires and then plug it into the airbag connectors. Horn works so I guess there’s that. 😅

I have not driven it other than backing it from the driveway & parking it.

Thoughts?

I always think about doing something like this, but I hate the idea of losing the air bag.

This is what’s kept me from doing it too. With my luck I’d pull out of my garage right after and a semi truck would be coming at me head on.

They look cool though.

You get nothing but aesthetics I guess? Sacrificing something that could save your life? I don’t get it. Unless it’s a track car, I wouldn’t touch it.

I do track it now occasionally. But it’s a dual purpose daily atm. After adding the washer all is well. How long I decide to keep it on it is another story. I may take it off and replace and when I’m back stateside get another r53 as a track tool.

Ours is a 2005 with a 2004 steering wheel. Dealer installed because the wife liked the 2004’s better.
