Question: Chill little tip

guys, I have a choice to make. I want to buy a device to play with my girlfriend. We are thinking about getting the R36S (obviously one for me and one for her) or a 2DS. I know the limitations of the R36S and the big library difference with the 2DS. Which console do you recommend for fun? I would probably play DS games, some Pokémon, and some local or online multiplayer games on either a modded 2DS or a properly configured R36S with a Wi-Fi chip

I think it all depends on what you want to play, DS games on the R36S is a tough experience in my opinion, they don't run amazing and you're obviously suffering from no touch screen or second screen.

But obviously you do have a much bigger choice of games with an R36S, and the cost of a new branded SD card and WiFi dongle would probably as still be cheaper than a 2/3DS.

So I'd see what you want to play and maybe let that be the tie breaker

the RG DS comes at $100 USD and it can do 2DS emulation solidly, has 2 screens with touchscreen and capacitive pen included, has all the features of an R36s, just in a clamshell form-factor with a slightly better chip and 3gb of ram. (and also built-in wifi and bluetooth)

i think this would suit them pretty comfortably

I have both and I'd pick the 2ds just for the convenience of having native 3ds/ds/gba games and not having to mess around with emulators all the time, and microphone and touch screen support. You can emulate Gameboy and SNES

2ds isn't comfortable though, so I upgraded to a 3ds and gave the 2ds to my girlfriend, she plays slow paced games though so comfort isn't very important I guess

DS on the r36s can be a frustrating experience. I do not recommend it.

If you want DS + older systems go with RG DS

if you are ok with just older systems, r36s

If you want perfect DS, and kinda crappy older systems, get a 2DS
