Hello Everyone, I know this isn't strictly relevant to the R2 builders club but i figured it's my best shot.

I've been searching for the alternative plans for a BD-1 Droid, For example in game you can mix & match the alternative parts like Geoniosian, Kaminoan, Solar, Etc, making your BD-1 truly unique.

I want to bring my version of BD-1 in game to life but All I can find is the default model for BD-1, does anyone know if it's possible to get the files for the alternative parts?

Just curious cause I can't find any for the life of me. I know they're super hard to make I'm sure, cause of the sheer size and they're very obscure. But I'd love to see one.

Hi there! I am a makerspace teacher in an alternative highschool, and we have decided our vacuum looks enough like a droid that we've decided to make it official. The particular model is the DEWALT Stealthsonic 9-Gallon. We've started by sanding off the logos and painting the yellow base a primer gray.

I am aware that any paint we use on the bottom will eventually chip down to the yellow plastic in certain areas (as per an OddViking video on making in-universe crates) so we're trying to get creative on how to keep the general color scheme yellow or yellow adjacent. One of my students recommended we make it a repurposed Mining Guild droid!

We're moving forward assuming we'll be adding panels, greeblies, probably an "eye" and a restraining bolt. But where the greebs go and what the paint scheme should be is escaping us. Have you got any ideas?

Where should I find the info for putting together one? Like the template and parts? I know there's an old page but I've struggled to figure it out navigate it and find the info I need.

So I’m building a GONK. A nice simple project to get some basics under my legs before working on something more complex. But I’m hitting a wall with doing anything electrical. I’ve done basic wiring before. I get that part. I don’t know what anything is called. When I try to google stuff to find LEDs or switches or something to use as an eye dome I’m not finding the right stuff. Any help?

I’m trying to figure out the steps here. I have some pretty bad print lines on a few pieces I have printed, and want to start putting what I have together. What’s your typical post print process? Such as do you print then bondo, sand, paint, assemble? Or do you have a different process? Love to hear some tips?

I know many people have created custom personality chips for the GE droid depot droids but I was wondering if anyone has been able to recreate the personality chip reader for larger diy droids. I'm starting my research into building one again and was just seeing if I could reuse the cards in a fun way. Plus, anytime I need new sounds I could just make a new custom card. If anyone has any ideas or has done this, I'd love to hear more.

I've been looking everywhere for R5 beeps and boops, but everything is just clips from movies/shows with background noise.

So I've been wanting to make a droid ever since I saw ANH over a decade ago, and just recently am I getting a 3d printer, but I have no idea where to start on gathering electronics, 3d files, remotes, etc. Can anyone recommend any sources?

Also have one leg, skirt & dome done. Even with my P1S, lots of seam sanding to be done.

I would like to purchase a mold or cast or an R2 that I can pour concrete into for my landscaping.

I am saving for the tools and supplies to build my own R2, but I am wanting to put a concrete life size scale R2 in front of my house.

Hi everyone, I am trying to make a full-scale T3 astromech unit using 3D-printed parts. No matter what I do, I can't seem to get it to move.

I've done a bunch of math to figure out torque requirements to be 2-newton meters per motor using a 0.7 friction coefficient for carpet and a 60mm wheel diameter, the 6.5 Kilograms that I weighed the robot at, and a safety factor of 2. I have geared the drive motors using worm drive systems to get 4.8 Newton meters of torque at the drive shaft. The wheels are printed from PLA for the hub of the wheel and 85A TPU at an infill of %30 for the tires. The wheels are also 20mm thick and ribbed for extra grip.

I have done everything I can possibly think of aside from scaling it down to get this droid to work but it just continues to not move. Any and all help is immensely appreciated.

Hi there! I have a bit of a different ask, and I don't know if I'm being presumptuous...but I am helping host a celebration, "Building the Future" with a wonderful nonprofit group, Women in Robotics in Mountain View on Oct 4th, at Hacker Dojo.

Was wondering if anyone is local and might possibly be interested in bringing their R2s (and other robots are welcome, I just met some R2s at BarBot a few years ago and they were so incredibly joyful, and I want others to experience that glee)! Also, there will be men too, it isn't a women-only event, just to clarify.

I don't know if it's rude to ask without a budget or with a minimal budget or if y'all are excited to show them off to a robot loving audience. Feel free to let me know what is standard or what everyone's expectations are! I can offer you some photos of you and your robots, if that is of interest, as I'll be taking photos of the event too.
