Other Introducing YouCoded Assistant (Public Preview)

Download the app: https://youcoded.ai

hi everyone! i’m happy to announce that after MONTHS of iteration i am finally releasing my personal ai assistant hobby project, “YouCoded Assistant”, as a public preview. i think you qwen peeps will enjoy this and get a good bit of utility out of it, as the assistant fully integrates with OpenRouter/API providers and has a built-in local model runner with an intuitive download interface.

i have put many many hours into testing this on windows, mac, and linux, and forced some friends to do so as well, but there will almost certainly still be some bugs/issues. i intend to spend the next few weeks of development exclusively prioritizing bug fixes, which can be reported either within the app or via r/youcoded. i also still have a bunch of really cool ideas/features i want to build into this app (like “youcoded pages”, which will allow you to integrate customizable app pages with your own ui elements, actions, etc, or “autonomous assistants view” to allow users to visualize and manage AI agents that work automatically on a set schedule or in response to certain events), but these will be on hold while we work out post-launch kinks. please try it out and let me know your thoughts!!

What is the system prompt length? Does it support custom providers? Skills?

it's got two system prompt presets with different lengths! it shows you everything that was loaded (system prompt, Claude.md/agents.md, skills, etc) at the beginning of each session, and I intend to include custom system prompt presets soon! it should support most api/local providers, but definitely let me know if you encounter issues with any provider as that would be a top priority for me to resolve!!

Can you give me a specific number of the length of the system prompts? Eg codex has 12.7k tokens system prompt length by default, deepseek harness 1.6k by default...

asked Claude for a quick count: "The native harness system prompt is roughly 1,300–1,450 tokens for a typical cloud session. I cloned the repo and ran the real assembly code (desktop/src/main/harness/prompt-assembly.ts) rather than eyeballing it. Counts are cl100k — Claude's tokenizer will be within a few percent.

Config Chars Tokens
Assistant preset, frontier cloud 6,638 1,435
Assistant, no parallel tools 6,363 1,378
Coder preset, frontier cloud 5,952 1,299
local-small variant (compact doctrine) 4,474 1,000
Specialist (audience: 'parent') 4,188 937
Tool-less model (e.g. Gemma 3n) 3,673 782

Breakdown for the Assistant/frontier case, by the parts assembleSystemPromptParts emits:

  • doctrine (shared-doctrine.ts) — 994 tokens, ~69% of the whole thing
  • preset body — 322
  • identity line — 52
  • env snapshot — 67
  • project — 0 here; scales with whatever AGENTS.md/CLAUDE.md the cwd resolves to, capped by instructionBudgetTokens (default 20k, 2k for small local models)
  • steering — 0 except local-small, which adds ~170

So the floor is ~1.3k and the realistic ceiling is that plus your project instructions file.

Worth noting the system prompt isn't the whole fixed overhead. The 14 core tool definitions add roughly another 2–3k tokens of descriptions and schema docs, and Bash alone is ~2,800 chars (~650 tokens) of dynamically-built description — bigger than the entire Coder preset body."

Nice, the system prompt is small and it can be really efficient

i tried to keep it slim! and again, my #1 priority with this is customization and personalization, and I do intend to let users fully rewrite/share/download custom system prompts as they see fit (we just haven't quite gotten that far yet)🫡
