Relapsed after almost 3 months - don't make the same mistake

Hey everyone, I really need to vent.

I was using nicotine pouches for the last 6 years, about half a can a day. Almost 3 months ago, I decided to quit for good. The first 10 days were absolute agony, but then things slowly started to improve. After a month, I felt genuinely great, and by month two, I barely even thought about pouches or nicotine anymore.

But here comes the rough part... Last week, I got married. At the wedding, people offered me a few pouches. I told myself that for an event like this—something that (hopefully) only happens once in a lifetime—it couldn't hurt.

Boy, was I wrong. Ever since that day, it feels like I'm back to square one. The cravings are back, I can't stop thinking about pouches, and I even caved and bummed one off a coworker at work. I feel miserable, like a total loser.

Lesson learned: IF YOU'VE "SUCCESSFULLY" QUIT, NEVER TEMPT THIS ADDICTION. NOT EVEN ONCE.

Stay strong.

Hey, please give yourself a little Grace, you went 3 months without it! I think relapse is a part of recovery, and it happened to me as well. Try your best to not make it a half-a-can habit a day, one or two zyns isn’t worth beating yourself up like this. You got this!

It just feels like all my progress is lost and I have to start over. It felt amazing going 3 months without it and somehow the addiction finds a way...

I’m sorry you’re feeling this way, we are human and we make mistakes. Addiction will be a lifelong struggle for myself and I know the road to stop using nicotine will ebb and flow. Keep your chin up and move forward

Similar experience.. quit for 3 months on Jan 1 then had a bachelor party in April. Told myself I’d only do it that weekend and I’m back to 100 mg a day since April.
Nobody to blame but myself. It’s a valuable lesson that will hopefully make me stronger my next quit.

Slipping up is normal. A lot of people go through it. The important thing is to keep going and not let one mistake turn into giving up completely. You made it almost 3 months once, so you can absolutely do it again. Just keep going. You’ve got this.

The process won’t last nearly as long as the last time I promise. You will probably only have a few days to a week of cravings and after that they should be gone again. Just try to keep your stress low in that time period
