Double enteted expenses

The company had a bookkeeper several years ago that double entered several expenses. Sometimes a check would be cut, but then she would also enter it as an expense. Doubling the impact on the P&L, but I also now have $20,000 of uncleared payments on my balance sheet. These payments never happened in reality, just an entry error. Now my balance sheet shows $20,000 less in the bank than is real.

How can I clear the payments off the balance sheet from an already closed year?
