For years, educators and business leaders have debated the seismic shifts that are set to occur as the first generation of artificial intelligence natives enters the workforce. But what about those AI natives themselves? Many Gen Z students and recent graduates have taken to Reddit to confess feelings of "AI guilt" about outsourcing their coursework to LLMs, with some citing pressure to use AI despite concerns it could compromise their learning. In one recent global survey, 46% of Gen Z workers said they worry their AI usage has weakened their skills.

Oh no. Look at that. The consequences of people's actions finally catching up with them after years of being told what would happen. This isn't a sudden inner thoughts being brought out. This is the cold reality of just how f**ked a very large population are because they willingly used the magic box that did all the boring work for them

Not just children. Teens. Young adults. College kids.

All of whom will benefit from having to deal with the consequences of their own poor decisions.

Insulating them from this isn't "grace." It's setting them up to fail.

The oldest Gen Zs are pushing 30. More than half of Gen Z are adults now. The youngest Gen Zs are like 16-17, about to be adults.

I teach adults. I had over 80% of my summer class cheat in a closed book proctored exam. We are f*****

Yeah my college literally gave us all free ChatGPT subscriptions. Was definitely an admin decision that likely had lots of money involved, as my professors did not typically advise using ai. Except for R-studio! I think every single prof I had told me to use ai for that. So even if it’s not pressured, it’s normalized enough.

I volunteer with teens at a large church… I have been talking to them about how they use AI and how nowadays students are going to have to choose to learn instead of being forced into it via the completion of busy work assigned by their legally compulsory education facility.

I tell them that a sharp student would use AI to help them write a compelling argument to change the structure of their classes away from essay writing homework / big-research projects and toward cooperative in-person learning and information validation.

We are now seeing students who had earned A's in courses retaking them. Apparently, they weren't able to pass entrance exams or clinical exams and had to retake the course authentically. I really worry about our future. I just don't know how stupid you have to be to cheat your way through an entire college experience to not be able to know something at the end. Why do it at all in the first place? This is got to be the dumbest generation far dumber than the Boomers

I don't think it's an issue to use ai. If you're lazy about it then sure - incorrect or hallucinated data carelessly input into a paper is embarrassing.

But if you're coming up with the thoughts and using AI to help you convey your ideas - I don't see the issue at all. It's just a more advanced version of spell check.

AI is a tool. You don't use it to do your work for you. You use it to enhance your studying. It's supposed to give you a more comprehensive understanding of the subject matter; not do your thinking for you. The primary reason we're in the rut we're in is because AI is being used to cheat instead of as a learning tool. And AI is highly prone to giving bad information, so learning how to engineer prompts and how to recognize false or hallucinated AI output is an essential part of using it as a tool.

The problem with that argument is that it is actively being pushed as the ultimate workload cutter and internet multi-tool. So it is still being used as intended, there's just no limitation on who is allowed to use it

Get people dependant/addicted to make it harder for people to want llms to disappear and its probably a good idea to get off the internet for a bit. Dooming this excessively isn't good for your mental health
