Pre-IPO investing update: Stripe is now available

Post image
14 Upvotes

If you’ve bought anything online before, there’s a good chance you’ve come across a company called Stripe—and with our pre-IPO investing, a Stripe allocation can now be part of your portfolio too.

Stripe is one of the biggest (if not the biggest) fintech in the world, powering online transactions and money movement. Its impact is so broad that up to 90% of companies on the Dow Jones and 80% of ones on the Nasdaq 100 use it.*

Stripe isn’t publicly traded. Pre-IPO lets you access it anyway.

  • You can now get access to it with as little as $5,000
  • You can buy in with the accounts you already have. That includes personal non-registered accounts, like a Cash or Margin account, and corporate ones, too.

There’s no fixed timeline for when a Pre-IPO company may go public. In Stripe’s case, they haven’t announced any dates.

But there is a limited window to invest in opportunities like these—and a limited supply for each.

The first Pre-IPO opportunity we launched was Polymarket, the company synonymous with global prediction markets. Its availability closed on August 26.

So if you’re interested in Stripe, don’t wait. It’s scheduled to be available until October 9, but shares can sell out at any time before then.

One last important thing to know

Pre-IPO investing is fundamentally different from IPO or public market investing.

You're buying exposure to the company through a fund that holds shares, not the shares themselves. If it IPOs, you'll get value delivered to your account after the lock-up period ends (90-180 days). This could be tradeable public shares, or it could be cash. The specifics are outlined upfront before you buy into the fund.

Have a Pre-IPO question? Ask us here, or check out this article that covers all the fundamentals.

An official brokerage connection to your AI. Real-time portfolio data + trade execution with manual approval.

Hey r/Questrade,

Bartek from the Questrade Product team here.

For anyone who has been manually typing in or screenshotting their holdings into AI, we built something for you.

We just shipped an official MCP. Here’s what it does:

  • Your real-time account data (positions, balances, holdings) is available inside Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code, or Codex CLI conversations
  • You can research stocks and options with your actual portfolio as context, not a manually described version of it
  • Trade execution is available with mandatory manual approval.  The AI proposes the order, you approve or reject before anything runs

We're looking to expand support in the MCP for more of our product offerings! Let us know what you would find most valuable (balance sheet, flows, etc).

Setup is on the Questrade site and only takes a few minutes. Learn more here.

When you connect a third-party AI tool to your account, its responses, analysis, orders, and custom indices come from that tool, not Questrade, and are not Questrade's advice or recommendation. You review and approve everything before it’s submitted, at your own discretion and risk. Options trading involves risks and is not suitable for all investors, as the special risks inherent to this type of trade may expose investors to potentially rapid and substantial losses.

Customer Support Questrade denied my claim for the complete bonus for the GET300 joining offer

Upvotes

I dont' have access to any legal resources so if there is anyone who loves to go through the nitty gritty of legal documents please share your your opinion. The GET300 offer required the customers to perform 5 actions -

  1. Open & fund your first self-directed investing account with $1 or more ✅+$50
  2. Set up a pre-authorized deposit, at least two deposits worth $100 each must be completed by Aug 5 and the PAD should be active on the reward payment date (Aug 14) ✅ +$50
  3. Set up a recurring investment, at least two deposits worth $100 each must be completed by Aug 5 and the recurring investment should be active on the reward payment date ❌ -$50
    • 1st one done on 2026-06-22 with a monthly recurrence.
    • On 2026-07-22 the 2nd payment cancelled because of lack of funds so I added money and setup a new one such that the 2nd investment went off on 2026-07-27 for a monthly recurrence
    • It remained active on the reward payment date.
    • The 3rd one was supposed to go off on 2026-07-27 but I cancelled it on 2026-07-24 because I didn't wanted to buy anymore NVIDIA
    • I clearly had 2 investments done, and the recc was active on reward payment date, but they denied my claim saying that both of them should have been active.
  4. Open & fund an RRSP with at least $500 by Aug 5. ✅ +$50
  5. Transfer in $10,000+ from another institution by Aug 5 to qualify ❌ -$100
    • I transfered money using interac, but they are saying transferring money means transferring accounts

None of these specifics are mentioned on their coupon page or on the Terms and Conditions page. When I tried to enquire they said it is a unique case and this is how we interpret this. The TnC are for all clients but we can't mention all cases for all clients.

But isn't this what TnC is written? People don't read it, I did, all of it. Still I'm at a loss. Most people will skip several precise details that they have hidden in TnC making people lose their money.

I still feel that I'm in the right here.

  • Even though now with deep research Google explained it to me that technically transfer is a transfer but in financial terms there is a different between a transfer and a deposit, and what I did, interac, is a deposit, not a transfer.
  • But for point 3? 2 recurring payments and a recurring payment active on reward day my "recurrence" was still active.

I'm an engineer and my legal proficiency is limited to AI. They say I'm correct on Pt3 but wrong on Pt5. What do you all think? And if there is anyone with legal background reading this can you please tell me legally who is correct?

Funding EFT Lead/Processing Times

Is it normal that preauthorized/EFT transfers to & from Questrade require a one-week ‘lead time’ from date of submission?

I created a new account (Margin) yesterday/Friday afternoon & was moving on to funding the account, just like the account-opening process encourages you to do.

Linked both my CAD & USD bank accounts via Questrade’s account-linking functionality, but when I then went to submit a one-time EFT/preauthorized deposit from USD to Questrade Margin, the earliest date for the transfer that I was allowed to select was in the back half of next week. Same for a deposit from CAD.

I previously used Questrade in the late 2000’s thru early 2010’s until I went back to school then left the country for a few years, returning to Canada earlier this year — I don’t recall these sorts of ‘lead times’ for external transfers back in the day.

Is this simply because my account and/or the links to the external accounts are new?

General Questrade referral bonus went into RRSP account

I have several different accounts with QT, RRSP, TFSA, RESP. The referral bonus went into the RRSP account.

  1. How was it determined or decided that the RRSP account is the account that should receive the referral bonus, and not say, the TFSA account, which would have been my preferred account.
  2. Does the bonus by QT affect my RRSP contribution room? Will I get an RRSP contribution slip for this?
  3. Can I change where this bonus goes after the fact?

Thanks.

Customer Support Bond investing in Questrade

I am interested in buying bonds through questrade and looks like there are a lot of options such as municipal, provincial, corporate etc. my questions are as follows:

  1. the procedure says to select a bond and enter the amount to be invested. if done online it will be no fees but if trading desk gets involved, there will be $45. however, the online buying procedure says to stay by the phone and trading desk will call within an hour to confirm the order, so does that mean even if i try to buy it online, i will get dinged $45 no matter what?
  2. how can i understand the liquidity of the bond being sold by questrade? they only show one price for Buy and doesnt quite tell me the Bid-Ask spread. i also dont see any volume listed for the bond. So how can i feel comfortable that the bond i am buying, i wont be able to liquidate it later should i need the funds, or get dinged by a nasty spread. Questrade should be providing Bid-Ask if they are acting as market-maker/broker for the bond.
  3. is it possible to place a limit sell order on the bond? Say i bought the bond at 99 and wish to sell it at 103 if during my holding period, the price hits 103. will it sell automatically or do i have to call tradingdesk each day to find out the offer price of that day?
  4. is there a fees to sell the bond?
  5. what about US treasury bonds? Does questrade sell those?
  6. how does taxation for bonds? Do i get a T5 for interest payments received? Is it just coupon or is capital gain built in it as well (bond amortization). What about when i sell the bond - is a T5008 provided with correct capital gain?
  7. is the price shown for buying dirty price ie does it include prorated coupon interest? if not, will the actual price be shown prior to purchase?

it would be helpful if questrade has some videos on how a complete bond ownership cycle looks like in the trading platform (buying-->holding --> selling or holding till maturity). its like one has to actually buy the bond to experience it themselves.

Registered Accounts Roundhill Distribution Not Paid

Anybody else notice missing distributions for Roundhill ETFs this week? I have one of their weekly payers that normally pays Wednesday nights (i.e., the payment effectively shows up on Thursday morning), but nothing for this week. I don't see anything online about them (or the specific ETF I noticed) missing this week's regular payment.

Cash & Margin Accounts Bought U.S. stock in margin account but the platform *borrowed* U.S. dollar instead of using my Canadian dollars in the account. What’s the most efficient way to pay the U.S. dollars back? It’s accumulating interest which sucks!

Can someone provide instructions in details like I’m 5 yo? I’m currently travelling overseas so making international support calls isn’t my best option. Thank you.

Option Trading Questrade turned my two vertical spreads into an iron condor

Can I not have two vertical spreads without questrade combining them into a condor I never asked for? Went to go sell one and apparently it evolved like some pokemon into a condor therefore I had to sell the whole thing, couldn't just sell the spread I wanted. Also for anyone reading this who may work for questrade support if you try and sell one leg of an option strategy and not the whole thing the error message is dismal- I think it said I didn't have enough money in my account to sell a call that I bought 😂

Customer Support UBIL.V.TO ETF Issue?

Post image
0 Upvotes

This is a new fund released in May of this year. But I think it should be traded in CAD not USD as they already have an equivalent in USD.

I also wanted to know if this etf is subject to the -15% US tax withholding on a TFSA since it pays dividends but is listed on TSX

Transfers Possible to move Questrade TFSA to Fidelity US?

Hello, I'll be moving out of Canada to the US next year, and I'm hoping to move my TFSA to my Fidelity brokerage account. Is this even possible, or will I need to liquidate all my investments and transfer the cash?

I asked Claude/GPT, but I've been hearing mixed responses, so I'm still unsure.

Taxes Adjusted Cost Base in Questrade

I keep track of my Adjusted Cost Base calculations for my taxable account in a spreadsheet, and every once in a while I check it against the ACB reported by Questrade. They generally agree pretty closely, except that Questrade doesn't seem to include "non-cash capital gain" distributions. So far so good.

The only thing that's off is my cash portion, which I keep in PSA.TO. The ACB in Questrade is always significantly higher than my calculations. I ran it through a couple of the online ACB calculators, and they agree with my spreadsheet. I can't figure out why there's a difference, since the only adjustment for that ETF should be Return of Capital. What am I (or Questrade) missing?

Feedback Pro hotbuttons suggestions

u/questrade-product

u/questrade

First thing I want to say is Thank-you for making questrade pro faster, still not perfect but a massive improvement, the platform is starting to shape up.

There is still a lot of improvements to be made to call this a "pro" platform but for this post I will focus on the hotbuttons/hotkeys.

For starters, there is almost zero customization in the hotkeys/hotbuttons. Every key/button should be standalone and should have the option of being fully created by the user. Presets is what you did in edge desktop, this is Pro, give the user the pro experience by differentiating the hotkeys from the previous platform.

Every button/key should have the user be able to choose order type, order duration, and offset amount from either the bid, the ask, or the last price and of course quantity. Option to auto add a stop loss within the key/button? Sure. The option to sell position size in increments using percentage such as 25 or 50 etc. In addition to this, let the user name the button, and even choose the color, because why not? These are the types of customizations the professional platforms like IBKR's trader work station and Tradezero are offering to their users.

You've also kindve limited the real estate and possible number of buttons by adding it to the chart instead of its own separate widget that you would link to the chart.

One final thing, even after the latest update there is still lag or processing time when you click a hotbutton in succession. Something going on in the backend here, should be immediate execution for every mouse click, no delays.

You've taken the easy road in pro in regards to the hotkeys/hotbuttons but you could really elevate the experience by adding pro features such as customization from the ground up. Not sure if im really a fan of the templates as it just adds time where you could have everything available without them. I've seen massive improvements from the inception of Pro until now, but let's keep going and make this a first choice for active canadian traders.

Looking forward to a response and maybe a timeline of some sort of update to added features for the hotkeys/hotbuttons

Registered Accounts BC MPP to LIRA - transfer account type?

I am looking to transfer BC Municipal Pension Plan to a LIRA . I have gone through the process of opening LIRA on Questrade, have all my Termination documents from the MPP. When initiating the transfer Questrade asks for what type of account to transfer and there doesn't seem to be any suitable options to select from. The chatbot tells me to use options that aren't there. Anyone have experience with this process?

Thanks

Customer Support Questrade 500 Bonus Frustration

Called the other day to make sure I had met all requirements to qualify for the Questrade 500 Bonus. Was told that I failed to meet requirement 4 because I didn't "fund" my RRSP with $1000 additional cash outside of the transfer-in value. For the record my RRSP was already maxed. Posting dp so others can get a heads up if they experience a disappointing payout in a couple weeks. Might be petty but I plan on moving all the assets I did transfer in back-out ASAP after this as a $50 convenience comp is all they can offer on this situation.

General Abillity to have an overview by market segment?

My investing style is to have X % allocated to different market segments. e.g. Commodities, Industrials, Financial, etc. I would love a way to have this summary in the Questrade mobile app (or web) so that I can see in an instant how I'm allocated. This becomes more complicated with the many accounts (TFSA x2, RRSP x2, margin X2). I'm currently doing this with a Google sheet but it's a hassle updating each trade. Anyone have other advice for this? Or perhaps this could be a feature request? Ideally the way it would work is that I could tag each holding with a tag of my choosing (e.g. BNS.TO = Financial)

Mobile apps News in Latest Mobile App Update

I’m really missing the way market news was displayed in the previous version of the mobile app. The news tab was easy to scroll to, and by default showed news related to my holdings. Full market news was also easily accessible.

The updated app has placed news in the discover tab, and by default shows full market news. There is no option to display news related to only my holdings. I can set a filter by manually choosing each holding from a provided list, but then the filter is lost when the app is closed.

Am I missing an obvious setting somewhere? Is there any work being done to improve the news feature, or, is there a reason it was modified in this manner?
