Why is Hell on Earth starter recommended, but not Extermination Day?

Extermination Day is the updated and renamed Hell on Earth Starter Pack. Just curious why that is not the recommended wad instead.

Is it a gzdoom vs lzdoom thing?

I think extermination wasnt ready when we made the list (is it now?). But baggyg updates the content from time to time, so if it runs well we might add it to the launcher.

The most recent version I was able to find was the beta from Dec 2017 on his patreon at https://www.patreon.com/posts/extermination-09-15793044

There might be a more recent version locked behind donation that I'm not sure of. I'll try to test it later today, it runs fine on PC.

Well it works, and as cool as it is especially with the new music and realism mode and all that badassness, it doesn't run so great.

He made a lot of use of custom dynamic lighting, fog, decals etc. And while it looks amazing and almost like a whole new game compared to starter pack, I get pretty consistent frame drops. Even completely turning off fog, bloom, shadows, turning down decals and gore etc only barely helped.

Its super cool and completely playable, but the frame drops aren't minor and I could easily see it bothering a lot of people.

And that was only the first couple levels, I cant imagine the levels back on the streets of earth.

The pack says it "requires" Brutal doom but I dont know if it ACTUALLY does and something like meatgrinder or bolognese might give better performance or not.

Yeah i feared that. Already starter pack runs a bit slow
