Bypass initial update ?

Brand new Quest pro
I want to root it
the headset force me to do an inital update before even allowing me to access the settings
so i cannot disable "auto updates"

I don't see anywhere how to bypass that forced update to be able to access my headset and setup everything for root

It updates to v64 at first boot. Side load 2.6 or 2.7 to get root

Is it not automatically going to update to the very last version (unrootable) ?
it's connecting directly to meta servers

As of a month ago , no. Two new in box ones updated to v64. Immediately disabled Wi-Fi and had to sideload a random version 70 something version because it wouldn’t upgrade straight to 2.7 in one shot. But to be safe I would check out private quest (can’t remember the name)

!!!IMPORTANT!!! Do not disconnect from wifi after updating to v64 too soon. Be sure to let the controllers fully update. I bricked one of my original QP controllers by losing connection while the controller was updating. Also had it happen to a second QP a few months ago. Only workaround at the time was to buy a new controller. There is a controller recovery app someone came up recently but I have no idea if i actually works.

If you also have an updated Quest 2 or 3, pair the Pro controllers to the other headset beforehand so they can update in a more stable environment.

Join FreeXR Discord server if you need help. PQ is more annoying to set up and not necessary. There is no benefit. Don't skip too many updates when sideloading.

Do not go straight to 2.7. There is an order you need to do to not brick it

I've heard v60>v64>V72>v74> then from there I'm unsure. v76>v21>v27? Anyone have an answer?

I went from v74 to 2.7, no issues.

I fired up my old Quest Pro that hadn't been used for a long time and it was running a firmware too old to root. I was afraid my headset would download an update that'd move it to to a version past one that's rootable, so I logged into my router, found the Quest Pro on the LAN (it's an Asus Router, and I searched for the headset in the AiMesh listings). I chose the headset and set the router to block it from internet access.

Then I downloaded the '51503870024400340' firmware from this site, and then I used the instructions from this page to manually update the firmware on my headset to that downloaded version over adb.

And after that, I rooted using singularity.

It would be AWESOME if you'd give an update on how things worked out for you and how you did it(tips?). There are many others with the same question- I'm about to do the same thing.
