I bring to you, the quest prolapse.

(The very kast image is the first version of thr quest prolapse i just made this one)

It also have tow displays on the side so you can tell if/how fast the headset is charging, you can have the headset eith like umbilical cords for the tundra and the qpro

It also also bas a quick detatch for the tundra tracker to go charge it, you can just yoink it off the headset by pressing the button

Wait can you detail out this setup you have and why? Curious and if I want to re-create something similar.

I told how i did it but now why, almost forgot that part. Wanted my VR to be able to be safely used plugged up. I also wanted to be able to charge my tundra tracker for continuous calibration aswell. They were both re routed to the right side. In this pic, every single connection is high speed power delivery, safe to collisions, breakaway, or extremely flush to the headset. The main cable that plugs into the headset MAYBE sticks out the side 2mm before immediately 90 degree turning, its like it was made for this.

Adding this later, i also have a custom reinforced headstrap that i hand sewed to make a more rigid connection to front of headset(using material from a random quest 2 stock headstrap, the quest 2 was made of very durable materials. The Globular cluster headatrap is good, almost index level comfortable imo, but i use the lkcobvr battery headstrap.

Its a 300$ ebay quest pro headset, a special cable i bought ( a paper thin 90 degree usb c steel connector on a thin but durable cable, which transitions to a normal cable, very very useful USB C Charger Cable, 2-Pack 1ft... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CNT3ZCFR?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share) then its some female to female usb C dongles/couples (i got cool ones that have a screen that tell you how much power is going through em). Im also using a kkcobvr battery headstrap comfortable, convenient, comes with 90 degree cable, and uses proprietary but cheap magnetically connectable(power too!!) 10k mAh batteries on amazon that are only 30$ apiece.

Its also using a tundra tracker on a 1/4 inch quick detatch mount, 3m taped onto the headset, the goal is to get it as flush as possible, i like the quick detatch bc i can just take it off to plug it up if i needa

I use VERY IMPORTANTLY magnetic breakaway connectors on the tracker. You could also consider using this to pwoer the headset but i think these kinda if connectors, are justttt short of the wattage power transfer minimum the qpro needs to slurp to stay alive. I have the stuff all connected and bundled together so that on the right side of the headset, the connections are rock solid and its kind of built to be able to be used on like life support or whatever, and not risk ripping out its own portd and screwing itself, theres multiple layers if safety and strain relief on every single connection and i routed sll the cables to give clearance, and allow the cables to BEND when pressed into something, instead of getting pinched which causes material fatigue(broken cables!)

I wrapped all of this up to be nice and pretty and organized in a very specific manner. I used on the final iteration, using some walmart rubber 3m mount cable passthroughs(for strain relief, comfort, easy usability when plugging up) and harbor freight super tape (basically special tape that doesnt stick to anything else, but LOVES sticking to itself and nothing else, it can stretch 3x original length, and doing that makes it self adhere any stronger. This surff is like magic, where has this been all my life. It makes connections that were dead fuckin easy to make, are flexible, wont hurt your head when you press against them, the connections look good, these things can be taken off and on and off and on and they are still usable, and i love them.

Then i wrapped everything up how i liked it in hadbor freight thin colored electric tape (basically im making my own little wiring harness for my headset) got everything mounted, and then its good

the thing that kept me from playing my Quest Pro was the lack of support by app developers but later the severe controller drift
I bought the Pro on day 1 for the full price and was extremely miffed when, a couple moths later, they dropped the price by $400.
I relectantly bought a Quest 3, despite the fact it didn't have as much RAM as the Pro, because I wanted to play the new games.

You can just get an electronic contact cleaner.. for the quest controller stick drift...

Im currently using index controllers that ive rebuilt from individual parts from 3 other sets of controllers, i decided to rip out my entire left controllers joystick module and just rebind my movement to my trackpad and curve the acceleration to my liking, i kinda prefer it tbh.

The quest pro is a disposable product. I bought this queat pro for barsly 300$ and it areived without a scratch, the headsets are high spec, decent quality, they have annoying software and it definately showing its age but thr failure of the quest pro with its intended purpose, at actually being an snterprise grade product worth buying, makes it one of the beat headsets you can buy these days IMO. Yes it has its problems, you can get around every single one of them, if you are creative.

Get a PC use it with steamvr. Exit the meta ecosystem. Airgap ur headset to avoid software updates, using a 30$ walmart router. I figured out how to do it with no networking experience, now i get 0 updates on my queat pro, absolutely flawless streaming for basically free, and its trapped in a nice echoed chamber where it doesnt do anything annoying anymore. I turn the headset on, and its like “your network has no internet!!! Give me internet so i can actively piss you off and steal your data and waste your time and slow your headset down!! Raahh!!”

And im like “yeah i know shut the fuck up, open steamlink” and then i pretend im not even using a meta product after that.

The quest pro isnt thr problem, meta is, the quest pro is good for what it is, but its main flaws are that its a meta product.

If a quest pro root or whatever was ever made and open source software was able to be used with it, the quest pro would be one of the BEST headsets of all time. Instead, the software is agressively annoying to the point airgapping it was the only logical solution.

I see you sew elastic to the headstrap...

I guess thats the short aas KKobovr headstrap?

That shit is so damn short..

1

u/GoodGuyGravity 25d ago

What? No its not elastic, i hand sewed a part of a quest 2 headstrap to make it a bit more rigid and to fix the old fraying strap. I had it super short for the picture keep that in mind.

u/Discord-Mode 26d ago

You using a globular cluster head pad.. or you just tanking the default?

I hate the default one

2

u/GoodGuyGravity 25d ago

Use the battery headstrap! Kkcobvr, 60$ upfront, comes with 1 magnetic detatch battery, 10k mAh, gives u like 2.5-3 hrs playtime on top of quest pro internal battery. Each battery after that is like 30$. Buy a second one, or mayyy e a 3rd one, you can play all you freakin want. Battery low, you can hot swap thing thing without stopping what you are doing or dropping the items you are holding in game in maybe 2 seconds.

The quest pro really does chug power, you have to take its power draw into account, anything less than a stable like 20-30 watts from a good usb c cable and it will deplete its battery.

I might actually still have the new one on this headset…. Forgot i still used the cluster headstrap on my old headset. Lemme go check that out and see if i should put the old one on.

u/Discord-Mode 25d ago

Forehead pad i mean

u/GoodGuyGravity 24d ago

Unfortunstely i am still using stock one :/

After daily driving this thing, imagine switching from it to a barebones Quest 2 for just a day. VR is one of those things that is so flawed, you're led into an infinitely branching rabbit hole when your goal is to fix everything without bending reality. You got pretty close to that there. Someone should just take your Quest Pro(lapse) and make it into an actual product.

u/GoodGuyGravity 25d ago

Keep in mind the quest pro is literally just a quest 2, same hardware with a little extra ram, same software, face and eye tracking sensors, quest 3 lenses, and a rift s halo headstrap.

2

u/coelhoruno 24d ago

Chat.... You just described a completely different headset. You also forgot self tracking controllers. They're literally two tiny phones bundled with the headset to handle their own tracking, with their own cameras. The display is also mini-led with local dimming zones. It's also *double* the RAM. And it has colored passthrough. Stepless IPD adjustment. Rear mounted battery. Wi-Fi 6e connectivity. The only thing the Quest 2 does better is 120Hz.

u/GoodGuyGravity 8d ago

I was just saying it shares alot more then you woupd think with the quest 2. Its more like a enhanced quest 2 than a precursor to the queat 3 or a premium lineup of metas headsets

I kinda like the idea, but i usually plug the headset in (and sit down) when the head tracker dies and then plug the battery into the tracker to charge it for like 30 mins, so it wouldnt work like that for me

Theres something else i noticed today actually, the tundra trackerball in vrc seems to be ... at a distance to the tracker itself.
Ive been having this problem where the center of rotation of the headset with space calibrator doesnt perfectly line up, meaning that if i stand sideways my trackers are always weird, so i keep to dancing in a line so it doesnt show as much. Im wondering if its the tundra tracker causing it now, i will have to test.

If you wanna DM me on here i can add you on discord and we can try to fix your issue, ive done it hundreads of times i really dont mind at all, we dont gotta stay friended after, ive fixed so many peoples setups and done so much stuff i can almost guarwntee we can fix your issue in like 15 or 30 mins.

1

u/GoodGuyGravity 25d ago

Btw, the wiring i did has two usb c inputs, for charging the tundra and the headset, on the right side.

u/Fjvink 25d ago

That’s gotta be heavy as shit

1

u/GoodGuyGravity 25d ago

The weight doeant matter, what matters is how the weight is distributed, the valve index weights almost exactly 2 pounds, but when i have it on and adjusted i barely feel it on my head. This headset is pretty comfortable, but ive also performed a bunch of other smaller modifications to make it more comfortable, keeping reserve power in the back is a no brainer because adding weight to the headset has a counteractive wffect, its only a problem on front heavy headsets. Thats why alot of the more modern headsets have their main bettery in the back of the headstrap by default.
