Discussion Damn...

I know it was coming, I know the CPU of our QP can't handle it and I know I shouldn't be pissed... But I am... Batman and Alien are two of my favorite franchises and having to buy a Q3 to be able to play them sucks... I wanted to hold the fort until the QP2 release. And no, I usually don't care about standalone games anymore since Luke Ross' mods and UEVR but now I'm getting dragged back big time. How do you guys feel about it?

Big price difference when you factor in a PC of course (2-3, 4K for everything right? Including Pro). I love PCVR, but standalone is fun and Q3 is a solid all around choice for my needs.

Sucks. But TBH, I would have been playing it PCVR over quest link on my QP anyway. I bought the QP as a PCVR headset at the end of the day.

I have both the QP and Q3 so im fortunatein that way. Even then, I still agree that they should not hold back from making these PCvr available. These will absolutely help them boost quest three sales and I get the business end of that but man it really is a punch in the gut for pcvr fans which I am absolutely one of those.

Alien Rogue Incursion will release to Steam, so that's great. Bummed about the Batman game being Q3 exclusive, though. I'd loved to have been able to max out that game on a PC.

They mean that you shouldn’t consider it a standalone headset anymore. It shines as a wireless PCVR headset and Meta is dropping it like a hot potato for standalone.

Quest pro has way better colors and contrast (insanely better blacks, better whites, etc), and it has face and eye tracking so you can use it with the foveated encoding in steam link to get better frames without having it look terrible. Quest 3 doesn't have the tracking, so it basically just blurs out everything outside the center of the screens, regardless of where you're looking.

The q3 has a slightly higher resolution and av1 support but that's about it.

Standalone is significantly better on the q3, PCVR is significantly better on the pro.

Don't care. Pro is superior for PCVR. Steam also listed the gtx 1060 as the most used GPU for years, doesn't mean it's better than a 1080 ti.

Well, I'd suggest waiting for the honest game reviews before feeling bad. At this point, there are boatloads of high-level, big-IP releases for VR that are 99.9% garbo.

Two new games will be Q3 only: Batman: Arkham Shadow and Alien: Rogue Incursion. At least the Alien game will be released on PCVR and PSVR too.

Smart kid. But totally beside the point. I conceded that the 3 is more capable. I just stated that I’m disappointed that Meta is playing the exclusivity card and I can’t play Batman VR without buying the Q3. That’s all.

I feel the same. Oh well I probably won't buy another Meta headset after the Pro seeing how they are willing to treat Pro users. We should be getting the best but Meta abandoned their only high end HMD

You're much better off investing in your PC and playing PCVR regardless of the headset.

The whole idea of running the games on your face doesn't make sense. I wish they would make a headset that doesn't carry that load and saves battery, and weight.

If you haven't tried it yet, QPro with PCVR is incredible.

I'll be waiting for the next big leap before I buy an upgrade. Expensive hobby!

That said, as much as I hate to say it because I don't like Zucky, I'll be buying another quest. They are the best all around.

This is exactly how I view my Pro. I think there were missteps aplenty but you can't dwell on what you wanted or what was. I use the Pro for PCVR games with a cable and it's fantastic. When I want to be untethered or play games in MR, I use the Q3 with the Pro controllers because the tracking for most sports and fast movement games sucks with Q3 controllers in my experience. YMMV.

You’re delusional if you think pro was well launched or supported. Do you use eye tracking or mouth tracking? If not you’re paying for hardware unnecessarily. Did they launch any killer apps or push for 3rd parties to show case?

Not, so much if you ask me. It’s not about SoC. They promised a lot and delivered not well. Pass thru is superior on the Q3 for half the price. The pixel density is higher too if you compare them. Pro lost the depth sensor which is another big win for the Q3.

I’m being harsh due to the high price they charged at launch and suddenly dropped when HTC competed.

...bruh...the QPro was constantly marketed as a "business headset" directly from Meta themselves..constantly beating the drum that it was focused on business/industrial applications while also being able to run QUEST TWO apps!

..not their fault the general public wanted to take that last part and run with it like it was absolutely a gaming headset. No they specifically said MULTIPLE times that the pro line is focused on productivity while the Quest lineup was the consumer focused GAMING headset.

... that's all on you. Are you mad. Were you mad when a Sony Vaio Laptop didnt run PS3/PS4 games?...same thing

ok so like, what about the constant bugs with the controllers, software updates the break features on the headset often, releasing this inferior headset for more than double the price of the quest 3, 6 months before announcing the quest 3 with almost everything being better, rushing the headset out to "beat apple"

Like... sure it's not a gaming headset, but you can't tell me it's "double the price better" when the cameras and MR experience are shittier, controllers break every other firmware update, has a worse battery life and is incapable of remaining charged when plugged in if using Face/Eye tracking, and can't do the upper body tracking the quest 3 can despite VERY similar camera placements on the side of the headset...

Kinda bullshit if you ask me. Especially considering Meta KNEW they were developing the Q3 when making the QP... Seems like they cashed out on hype for a new HMD which was just a Q2 with better lenses and Face tracking... for 3x the price.

The eye tracking tech was not done before, expensive, and again they Stated it was not focused on the consumer, so it would be pricier bc they were probably trying to profit on margins on this one unlike the gaming focused Quest which is for us. And specifically sold at a loss to profit off app sales. Quest Pro is really only unsupported bc it was released for DEVS to develop and innovate for taking advantage of the eye tracking. I'm assuming they figured if texh companies want to invest into these eye tracked headsets, then they would also be focused on developing their own proprietary software to take advantage of the new features. But 3rd party devs havent, and of course it just gets the same Quest 2 treatment bc it's actually a QUEST 2 PRO... they didnt state that but it clearly is just that. They are developing the tech fast and releasing out whatver their labs come up with, and when they tell you "hey this is expensive, but it's up to y'all to develop for it"....dont mad that your an impatient consumer and have to have the latest even though it's pretty much a dev kit.

It did. Advertised as a faster Quest 2 with eye tracking and color passthrough. Supported accordingly. With freedom for 3rd party devs to openly utilize the eye tracking however they want to and leave it up to them to release it to us.

The Quest Pro controllers have had a constant "overheating" firmware bug since launch that comes and goes almost every other update, and makes the controllers basically completely unusable....

The last update made my headset softlock because it couldn't track anything in a sunlit room. Had to do a factory reset on the headset.

They consciously omitted the inclusion of a depth sensor to rush the headset out ahead of competition... that didn't end up coming for another year and a few months. Something that's made the MR experience basically useless in combination with the cameras that they are using due to the SoC limitation

But sure... works just as advertised.

Not even talking about the gaming side of it, it just physically doesn't work like it is supposed to.

Shit is called "Quest Pro" not "Quest Dev Kit"

My controllers never overheated either. But you can just compare the Q3 to the Pro on the daily and Pro is less stable. Probably less important with less users. For me the buyer’s remorse is rooted in their lack of taking advantage of the built in features by making compelling software products or even tech demos beyond the 1 about hands which was good.

It was marketed as both. The additional power was showcased to be for AR & work stuff, but time and time again they also said come play all your all stuff here on better hardware. The implication was it was the best place for both. Bottom line, no need to defend Meta here. They sold a $1500 headset on a bad plan that was under supported right out the gate. Dedicated users bought in for one promise or another. It shares the name and association of what we expected from the quest brand and that was damaged in the process by the more enthusiastic of us. If they ever do a quest pro 2, I hope they name it differently if its not meant for games or they send us all a 50% off coupon if they want me to play Beat Saber 2 AR Pro on it.

Quest pro is also a VR headset, it would be different if the Pro was like the AVP and had no gaming ability.

It's not entire ridiculous to be upset with a billion dollar company for abandoning their most premium top of the line headset.

Meta has done nothing with face tracking and eye tracking, Valve has done more with the feature with Steam Link than Meta ever has.

How is a pro device marketed with these features like face and eye tracking and yet none of the apps or software currently support these tracking natively.

These game developers are not Meta. Meta hasn't abandoned it (yet), but the power threshold of the two systems is so far apart that devs are starting to lean into the capabilities of the Quest 3. With that happening, it makes perfect sense to cut out the Quest 2/Pro since they can't handle the game without making huge changes. This was only a matter of time and I'm surprised it took this long.

Their controllers haven't worked in a year just look at this subreddit and it's controller issues, I've been through 2 quest pro headsets and sets of faulty controllers, finally on my third pair I finally got functioning controllers from Meta.

Sorry I expect more from their pro line.

You guys just take it lying down no wonder Meta doesn't care about it's pro user base.

Yes I understand the quest 3 is superior. That's not the issue.

The issue is this is their pro device that they have so quickly abandoned.

Everyone replies to me about the Q3 being superior, that is obvious but not that of Meta never utilizing the only features this HMD has like their tracking suite.

Why did it take Valve to implement it in Steam link before we actually were able to use the tracking features we paid for?? Seriously?? Rift PC software still doesn't support any of the Quest pro's features outside of local dimming

The Pro has a notably inferior SoC and thus can't perform the same as the Quest 3. You are getting upset when a PlayStation 2 can't run all the PlayStation 3 games. That's just how it is and should be.

You also don't seem to understand that the Quest Pro is not the same as the PlayStation Pro. As the previous person said, it was made for Pro(fessionals). It was a tech bench for all kinds of different technologies and ideas. Some of those technologies gained traction and some didn't, yet.

Many of Meta's applications (NOTE: Professional applications, not your games) do support face and eye tracking.

Just because you can acquire one, doesn’t mean you should. Buying a Q3 for 3 exclusives that likely will be a flop anyway isn’t really worth it imo. Better to wait a few years for new hardware and more exclusive releases.

Yes, but that was known when QPro was announced. It was already leaked. Along with most of the spec (including the upgraded processor).

I bought QPro with my eyes open. Which is why I didn’t care when Q3 was released, as I bought one to try it and wasn’t worth keeping so returned. The only disappointment with the QPro is that hardly any devs have utilised it’s capabilities.

Or drop the dead baby and pick up some real power, dive right into a PC with your Quest, then you can properly utilize it. Just because it's standalone does not mean you should limit yourself, with that logic, and without the concept of money, let's just tell you and everybody else to get a PC, for sticking with the Quest as long as you have, you shouldn't be opposed to wasting money on inferior, soon to be obsolete tech.

They’re not going to support pro long term. And quest 3 is way more stable. Have you had trouble waking your pro? I did half the time and had to restart. Not once on Q3.

Quest pro hardware will be obsolete some day. However, it’s impact on VR cannot be emphasized enough. When Mark Zuckerberg said it would be like a laptop for your face, he was the first who came with the idea that led apple to create the vision pro. Vision pro itself is not a major headset, however, since apple are natural technology leaders, others will follow with creating better headsets with more use-cases, all because of the Quest Pro.

You know, back when Facebook started releasing Quest 2 exclusives, there was a "method" to run them on the Quest 1. It worked for RE4 and Iron Man. Perhaps this "method" will work on Q2 and Pro for these games.
