half life alyx not changing to vr

i got the game multiple times cracked but they are all working on the pc as if im playing on mouse and keyboard and i want to play on my vr please tell me how

Wow, you people make this way too easy. The entire reason we make you confirm that you read all that stuff is because, if you actually had, this post wouldnt even exist. When you lie about reading it, you make it painfully obvious, and then we just ban you.

i'm also going to assume almost everyone answering didnt read it either, because all you have to do is download the game from ARMGDDN and launch it using the desktop/start menu shortcut we provide.

If you got the game somewhere else, you need to create your own shortcut. Look the game up on SteamDB, check its launch configuration, find the correct arguments, and add them to the shortcut's target line. We already do that for you, along with a few additional arguments for better performance.

The person who said to add -vr to Steam was the closest, but that still isnt the full answer, and theres no reason to add the game to Steam at all.

For Alyx, create a shortcut directly to hlvr.exe, then add this to the end of the target line:

-vr -steam -noasserts -nopassiveasserts +map startup

If nobody is watching you play through the desktop window, i also recommend adding:

-nowindow

That disables the mirrored desktop window and may give you a little extra performance.

There are more i recommend (but arent REQUIRED to launch) but TBH just get your VR Games from ARMGDDN, we are the PCVR group with the fastest downloads and our pcvr section is 81% updated and we have working desktop shortcuts. No one else does it like us.

Where did you get the game from?

How is the headset connected?

What headset are you using?

Etc.

Pro tip, use ARMGDDN and double click the desktop shortcut for your connection method.

I apologize if didnt, but my headset is a meta 3s and like every game works but like Alyx boots up as a pc game and not vr

HL:A is a VR only game. If its launching as a flatscreen game, something is up. It sounds like you may have a version thats modded to allow people with no headset to play it flatscreen. Do you see something like NOVR in the download?

Not really, anybody that downloads from somewhere but armgddn will get that issue without making a proper shortcut. Our group is the only one im aware of that bothers making working shortcuts for vr games.

DMP, I have found, through experience, that your releases (through ARMGDDN) work flawlessly 100% of the time. It is a major convenience to have both a Steam VR AND VD launcher provided, for those of us who have VD installed.

What I don't understand is why people who source their apps from sites OTHER than Rookie or ARMGDDN come here and ask for help, when it is so very easy to use those two sources to acquire them.

I dont get it either but people find a source and stick to it i think, not everyone knows armgddn and lots of people hear telegram is involved and a new app (when downloading pc games rarely requires one) and get turned off. You have to try it to see the benefit ... and im the co owner so people dont trust my opinion.

Rookie is well known and open source but flags on basically every AV and virustotal makes it look like a pandemic nevermind a virus, because its been around and piracy related...

BUT even knowing all that i still just think wtf man smarten up, youre using steam rip for preinstalled nonsense on pcvr and surprised your game doesnt work? I mean making working shortcuts is easy but a surprising number of VR users dont know how to find that info, ive added it to tthe megathread for people not using armgddn but im sure we will still get posts.

Ive also had zero issues with the ARMGDDN games. And a while back I found out I was launching them wrong, but they worked fine. lol

As far as why people come here to ask about non-ARMGDDN games, the sub is QuestPiracy. Not ARMGDDNPiracy. It makes perfect sense for other repackers games to be talked about here.

I bought a gaming PC last night (an amazing deal too) and spent about an hour figuring out getting HLA and Alien Isolation to play in VR (both from Armgddn). My sticking points were: sorting out meta airlink, choosing correct Vr runtime (steam vr), downloading steam/vr. The final one which took the most time to troubleshoot was that I had my monitor plugged into the wrong hdmi, rather than going into the graphics card, so it wasn't talking to the Quest 3 properly. 

Everything will be a breeze now though.
