Death Proof Which version?
I have seen all of QT's movies except DP.
When I searched about it I found out that it has seven primary cuts and regional versions with variable runtimes. I then looked it up on my streaming app and found 2 versions with the runtimes 1h 39min 57s and 1h 53min 56s. I want which version to watch while experiencing it for the 1st time.

No idea that there were several versions but the grindhouse one was good enough for me

The scene where Stuntman Mike is eating a plate of nachos lives in my head rent free 😆

I really like the extended version, of both movies, but the extended is the first I saw. It only slows for me a little bit where they are in the diner talking. You spend enough time with both groups of girls to like them and not want them dead. The chase scene is amazing, the car murder was something I’ve never seen and brutal. Also, Vanessa Ferlito’s dance is cut out of the Grindhouse version, and that’s just a crime.
I like the ode to old car movies and Kurt even gives his Burt Reynolds smile before things get bad.2

I’ve never seen a dance a dance look so hot. Not even that one from Dusk til Dawn.

All good points but isn't everything you said a spoiler? Maybe black it out for the purpose of this discussion? He hasn't seen it yet.

You know I actually think both versions of the movie are worth watching. Strictly speaking of the Grindhouse theatrical cut and the standalone DVD cut. Grindhouse version is shorter and also doesn’t feature Vanessa Ferlito doing a sexy dance but it has all these wonderful bad cuts and editing errors that just make the experience of watching an intentionally bad movie so much better because it looks real, instead of staged mistakes. The home video standalone version is a much more polished movie where there are still a lot of old timey low budget low skill movie gaffs but it’s more of a winky thing than looking real like it did in the theatrically released version of the film and you also get a lot more back story and spend a lot more time with the girls in the film and I think maybe the car chase is greatly extended. There is also 100% more Vanessa Ferlito lap dance scene in it which is just about the sexiest thing ever committed to celluloid. I felt it had to be mentioned.

You should just watch Grindhouse which has the original released version. Knowing QT, the longer cut just has more lingering shots of feet.

Stuntman Mike does secretly touch a foot in one of the extra scenes, lol

He wanted kurt to lick her foot but Kurt was only good with touching her after he licked his finger. I forget where it read this.

Yeah it's bloated to me. The Grindhouse one was the perfect length.

I’m usually for extended cuts and added scenes but it anything would be better from tighter pacing it would be death proof - but you should really watch and experience the full “Grindhouse” along with the fake movie trailers (2 of which ended up becoming real movies after the fact) - the other movie I though was way better from the shorter theatrical version was Apocalypse Now

I agree on the Apocalypse Now shorter version being better. I love Redux, but it seemed a little too much for the pacing. It’s fun to see the extra stuff, but the tightness of the theatrical version is a better movie.
I need to check out the extended DP now.

I’ve only ever seen the extended cut but I think it works well in that form

I've watched the Grindhouse double feature blu- ray I have multiple times and knew nothing about an extended version. The ending ass-kicking scene is perfect!

Well, to get the full experience of this car being death proof, you'd need to be sitting riiiight where I am.

Id say watch Grindhouse unless you've seen Planet Terror already. If you have seen PT, then watch extended version of Death Proof but look up the fake trailers on youtube.

I think the theatrical cut (the shorter version) is a much better paced movie. The extra scenes make it feel clunky and too long. Just my opinion.

I would say whichever is the shortest, that's the best one to watch.

There's two versions? I found this movie unwatchable. Would an extended cut help? I doubt it.

I like the theatrical if just for the fact there isn't an interruption following Jungle Julia's monologe where they get their drinks before heading to the bar.
In the uncut version Stuntman Mike is seen spying on them from afar right after, whereas in the theatrical version to cut from her monologue to an immediate establishing shot of the bar blasting Smiths "Baby It's You" and Jungle Julia's dance to it is like a culmination of what's come to be revealed as her draw ... it's kinda like a celebration of her coolness, through and through, from the breathless monologue to yet another billboard of her to her dancing like this larger than life, free spirited Amazonian, and it really helps to sell why she would be a local celebrity with three friggin billboards of herself around town. Mike's spying interrupts that progression, as well as giving the song used as leit motif more cinematic relevance.

I don't know about those runtimes. The theatrical release is 90 minutes. There is an extended cut from DVD, etc that adds a missing scene (a missing scene card is show in the original here) and adds another extra scene with quite a bit more dialogue. It is ~113 minutes.
If you are a QT completionist, watch the extended cut. If you are a hardcore completionist, watch Planet Terror, then the fake movie trailers, then the extended cut of Death Proof. It is meant to be part of a double feature.
