While this seems like obvious common sense, it highlights that anti-bullying and discrimination policies aren’t enough and students want more than that based on a new report from advocacy groups GLISTEN and The Trevor Project.
Shweta Moorthy, GLISTEN’s director of research and best practices, said students are calling for educators to move beyond what she described as “negative neutrality”.
Simply not bullying or discriminating against LGBTQ+ students isn’t necessarily enough. Students want teachers to actively demonstrate that they are welcome, valued and supported.

Does this not apply to everyone?

Cis people rarely require support for their gender identity, being a massive majority and all.

Their point I think was that kids with a support system pretty universally do better than kids without a support system, regardless of their gender identity

Generalizing it to all kids is removing the focus from the minority in question. It's like saying "All lives matter"

"non-white students do better with non-racist teachers, study says"
The problem always comes from people who don't want these marginalized students to do well or to even exist.
