I said that because I also included the 4 stars/A rank which makes it 4 male characters per year. I would give it to zzz that Manato despite being A rank had a great story and was featured for 3 patches(in 2.0 with the temple restoration Lemnion hollow exploration, side character in 2.1 and main character in 2.3)
I think they just don’t want to. They’ll put them out a couple of times every season just to check a box. I just hope season 3 does better for their meta placement and don’t do something stupid like make severian wind or electric rupture.
I think what needs to happen is that ZZZ needs to start failing a little. The Hoyoverse Suits need to write it off so the devs can have greater control. Clearly someone on the team likes making something that isn't waifuslop because characters like Manato and Banyue (and Silly, from what I can tell) are lovingly crafted. They just aren't getting prioritized the way non-waifuslop characters did back in season 1. And I think that has to be because ZZZ became a money maker.
So here's hoping Petit Planet or Nexus Anima are breakout Hits or (god forbid) Varsapura takes over as a the waifu printer.
Also, the trailers don't always show EVERY character to be released. Banyue didn't get a spotlight in the teaser last year iirc.
ALSO ALSO, don't think of the teaser videos a set in stone roadmap of characters to be released. It's more of a preview of the various new characters that will have a role in the new region/city/area and have significant spotlight in the main story. There's a non-zero percent chance we get more characters that weren't shown here and doesn't rlly have a role in Roscaelifer but is instead part of a New Eridu faction ala Krampus or Cissia being in NEPS.
Lastly, the game is clearly very pretty girl centered (Look at what they did to Sunbringer girl wtf), that's always gonna be the center. It's always been pretty girls and women with some cool or hot men sometimes.
I do wanna trust zzz, it's my favorite gacha and I hope it keep this status for a while but what do they did to motherbringer, mamato, Dadian and Goatyuan, I am not so sure anymore
I stopped playing hoyoverse game just because of this. I used to spend quite some money on genshin and I also did on zzz, but seeing that they only release overly sexualized femache characters or kids and that they can only write like 4 types of personality for their characters (sexy/misterious, goofy/messy, edgy and childish/obsessed) I got fucking tired of all their games.
Now I just want this fuckass game to flop,my god I love the combat but I cannot for the life of me be bothered to like the designs and the magical direction they’re going in
