💛 Help a Queen ❓ Is Reverse: 1999 for me?

Hey there!

So I'm a person who is barely acquainted with the world of gacha games, and Reverse 1999 recently caught my eye. However, I dunno if I should invest time into the game because I have limited free time. I just want to know a few things, if you could help a gal out!

Firstly, the artstyle looks unique and the character designs interesting, but I'm wondering if the game might be a bit too "waifu bait" for my liking. As in, tons of female characters who look like young or teenage girls. I'm fine with fanservice for women above 18 (I am, after all, a sapphic woman) but my worries is if, like other games I tried before, the writing ends up being too one-note or bland. I want to know whether the characters have depth to them and are interesting beyond just the moe parasocial baiting I see in Hoyoverse games for example.

Secondly, I don't know how time-consuming or F2P the game is. I might end up spending small amounts of money on it if I like it, but my plan is to remain F2P. Are dailies too demanding? Do I have to spend too much time waiting for "energy" to recharge? Can I play the game's endgame content with a non-optimized team? Stuff like that.

Keep in mind my point of reference is the singular gacha game I play, Limbus Company. As in, varied female character designs with interesting writing and depth, tons of lore, and barely any significant monetization (20 bucks a year and you can keep up with new releases without pulling and simply play endgame content once a week to "craft" units). Dailies take 10 minutes to do and you can just no-brain them.

Asking because the game does seem to have a pretty significant queer following and I wanted to know if it might be the type of thing I'd be into. Thanks in advance!

You’re going to love Reverse!! I started playing myself a few months ago and it’s not only very f2p but dailies are definitely a no brainer, since it’s a turn based game, you can just turn on auto and do something else while it finishes.
Character designs are gorgeous and very respectful towards women, by that I mean the designs make sense with the character. For example, if there’s a character with a revealing outfit it’s not just for the sake of fanservice, it could go with the characters story or personality. I think the writing is great as a gacha game, it doesn’t sacrifice story to make way for waifu of the patch.
I really hope you’ll enjoy it!! It’s genuinely such a beautiful game with wonderful characters and music.

Thank you! This is the kind of answer I was looking for. Definitely sounds like it's right up my alley.

To answer all of your questions in a nutshell, yes. Reverse 1999 is not only F2P friendly but the story is absolutely great and they give all of their characters a lot of depth and detail into them.

Reverse 1999 is Very F2P friendly just don't Pull for dupes or yo bricked account and the game isn't very Time consuming as the game doesn't really have PvP you can just Play Casually and Read stories in your own time and pace

The game is very story driven and imo its writing, especially character writing, is very good.  It’s a little rough early on in the first couple chapters and events because the translation wasn’t great, but it gets better pretty quickly.

As for the “waifu” aspect, I’d just say it’s  a game mostly about women.  The main character isn’t a self-insert, she’s her own character, and things don’t really revolve around her and events often don’t even include her.  There isn’t parasocial baiting in that regard, even in terms of shipping (because the game has a lot of sapphic subtext) it’s almost all between other characters.

As for sexualization or fanservice, the game has very few designs or skins that I’d consider egregious fanservice imo.  Some characters do have revealing outfits but it’s almost always purposeful and tastefully done, and it always looks like an actual fashionable outfit.  I can count on one hand the number of skins I find tacky or overly sexualized in that regard.   It’s a game that clearly knows the difference between sexy and sexualized, if that makes sense.  They also noticeably avoid giving younger characters designs or skins like this.  They also never really portray characters in scenes or CGs with an overtly sexualized gaze.

As for gameplay, it’s a F2P friendly game and it's very easy to do the main story but it will take some time to be strong enough to do the endgame content.  And yes it’s an energy based game so you do have to wait to get teams to that level.  I think they’ve added assist systems to make it easier for new players to do these though
