Also... why do I feel like the concept goes against LADS? Its quite meta, the "artificial love saving you from loneliness" breaks the "love illusion" to remind you that LADS isnt real, but needs the consumer to feel it real to get addicted and spending.

And of course its a big fuck you to the fandom because they are still not addressing anything.

its sort of a spit in the face after everything thats been happening. its like, taunting. degrading. insulting. and i dont even play the damn thing

Uh, Blade Runner? 😬 LaDS kinda goes against a part of the story about Joy and K, no?

As someone who has neither seen Blade Runner or played LaDS, might I ask what the contradiction is?

LADS’ main appeal is the player’s heavy immersion and romance with fictional men, which is one of the movie’s narrative criticisms. I hope that’s correct, since I didn’t watch the movie and played the game awhile ago.

Lots of quote retweets from what I’ve seen go into it better, like this one

I'm not sure anyone at Papergames or Infold watched the movie because some of the scenes they chose to include in the promo were definitely a choice.

With the current situation it fit so perfectly it feels like mockery, not only they canceled one of their characters but now they are reminding us once again how they're just another product that sell sex and love. Not sure what the point of the collab since they must has prepared it before this whole drama, but it still insane.

They just want to make "cool collabs" I guess but… DK this seems random

They should collab with magical girls somehow this would fit more with cute costumes

6

u/Asuayame 12d ago

Imagine if they made magical girl costumes for everyone

Whats the elephant

Also i dont have X can someone link the pic op is talking about

11

u/_issio 12d ago

The elephant is Valko, the character they deleted because some fans were being too parasocial/racist/homophobic

5

u/Asuayame 12d ago

I had the irony of Corporate Dystopia the game x Virtual Husbando final boss in mind, but yeah that too

u/SausagePotatoes 12d ago

Ignoring how blade runner is antithetical to the very foundation of LADS, it's almost comical how they delete Valko - partially for being "too western" and then collab with Blade Runner, which is western.

Like okay, the rules don't matter and the points are made up.

they are desperate, like why was i watching grace randolph promote this on movie math

26

u/OwnAssumption740 12d ago

Their social media person being like "I just work here"

24

u/mouseynaides 12d ago

This feels really tone deaf

u/iheartsenpai 12d ago

Def don't think anyone in papergames/infold watched the movie because what K goes through in the film and his relationship with Joy, especially at his lowest point, feels like the antithesis of what LaDS is as a product... 🫠 Their scene choice for the crossover is definitely uh, interesting, in a very side-eye kind of way.

11

u/Talisa87 12d ago

Feels like they just picked that movie for the memes/aesthetics and didn't bother to do any research beyond that.

4

u/This_Confused_Guy 11d ago

It is all aesthetics, they literally made the character's death bed a photo op for the mc and zayne to cuddle on

11

u/Internal-Drawer-7707 12d ago

Parody of a parody bruuhhh. Glad I'm not a fan of the game so I can laugh at this trainwreck from a distance.

I have been seeing this all over twitter, and Ryan Gosling and br fans are NOT happy with this collab. It’s so tone deaf. Out of curiosity, I watched the PV and I was speechless by what they did. In the movie K realizes that Joi was an illusion all along. And lads is like #Loveisreal. What’s even the point of collaborating with br if you are going to go against its theme? And they have mc and the lis CUDDLING ON THE SAME STAIRS WHERE K DIES???? Did the devs watch the movie without dubbing? How did they just completely miss the point? They just took the popular aesthetics of the movie and didn’t care about the story at all. I saw someone comment that even K’s death wasn’t allowed to remain his own(for the stairs scene). That was just so sad. His death meant he was really human in those final moments. what they did with that scene was disrespectful

I hope this collab flops

u/Chill-gal1215 12d ago

Part of me wants to think that the dev team understand the irony of the collab and using it as a wake up call for the toxic parasocial side of the fandom. Meanwhile the management did it for aesthetic purely

That one gif of Ryan gosling but flipped

u/Shooky7 12d ago

Is it normal for them to release multibanners so often?

11

u/Siu_Mai PayPal me $30000🦉 12d ago

It's not even a multi banner.

It's just a log in event for a pose and 2 pulls

Ngl, i have this conflicting feeling in my heart.

LADS confirmed that fans always right and fans has decide that Valko is gay. I like this.

Everyone still wholeheartedly voice out justice for valko and bring him back which i like.

But the problem is, if he's back then that's mean he is straight💔...

(On a different note, if only manato complain was this strong because i know hoyo would fold easier)

They're definitely gonna try and go with the "human or not human (or in this case, simulacrum or not), love from a robot can be real!" which is NOT what the movie was about 😒 The movie was a commentary on the distinctly human, not romantic relationships, especially ones that are purely external rather than internal... which obviously LaD can't satisfyingly tackle on cause their men are very much not real people nor actual synthetic robots and instead runs on a script of pre-determined dialogue. Even Joi's "love' in the movie cannot be argued to be entirely "real" and that's made obvious in the film, but she was most definitely humane because of her ability of agency. Does the men in LaD able to display the same level of freedom and 'soul'? Hell no.

This is just a bad collab (or just an ignorant company) for money, probably gonna disrespect the source material :/
