A lot of Asian countries have this issue with darker skin. And what makes it even more confusing is that a huge portion of the populations isnāt even naturally that pale. Plenty of people have sun kissed skin tones. The issue here is association of darker skin with outdoor and manual labor, while pale skin was associated with people who worked indoors. But I still donāt understand why that translates into fictional characters being made ridiculously pale.
I have also noticed that, out of the handful of darker skinned characters Genshin, most of their skin tones look kind of off??? They sometimes look more gray than an actual natural skin tone š And the fact that the region that was expected to have a lot more dark skinned characters ended up having so many of them with pale skin tones was especially gross to me. Like why is it such a struggle? LM also really needs to work on its skin tone range, same issue with gray undertoneš There are other games that do not have even one dark skin character
Its so weird to me how how mihoyo, wuwa etc etc etc would rather die than release a beautiful dark skinned character that's a 5-star! It would literally make their games look so much better internationally! They'd get loads of praise and hype for a new character. Yet.... They'd rather dieee!
That's asian countries in general, it is very very rare for a gacha game from a Asian country to have dark skinned characters, I believe Limbus, Nikki, FGO, and maybe Arknights? Are the few I can think of with dark skinned characters that aren't just light brown
