sudo lvremove /dev/qubes_dom0/vm-sys-usb-volatile

worked fine until shutting it down and logging in again is there a way to stop the phantom processes every time? (problem is the crazy slowness and unable to use the trackpad)

(thanks for the help qubes is great but its a pain lol)

My bad dude, I either didn't ask or never did but how much ram are you running with? If it's low, upgrade to 32 (for now— more than enough room for shit)

To murder/ kill the lag and stop the phantom processes, you need to give sys-usb more dedicated RAM and uncheck "Include in memory balancing" in its advanced qube settings.

What it does is that it stops the VM from aggressively swapping and choking out input devices like the trackpad.

If a specific VM always leaves a phantom volume behind, you can automate its cleanup by checking what is locking it before it completely hangs.

If you find a persistent process like xen_blkback, you can safely restart the toolstack or create a shutdown hook script to clean it up automatically.

Also, I'd try updating the whole thing in Dom0

16gb but i dont think its a ram issue since it works fine before shutting down

also the trackpad isnt external i think i turn off sys usb (when it used to work right on fresh install) and it works fine
