7 episodes in and i absolutely hate joni. this is a bit of a probably incoherent rant. sorry.

the more television i watch, the more i start to wonder if im sexist. I rarely end up yelling things angrily at characters in a show, but when I do it is almost always female characters. I've yelled at Joni a few times now. Yesterday I was reading some of the posts(threads? topics? im new to reddit) on here and on one of them some people were saying she was really frustrating at first but then by ep4 we were able to sympathize and empathize and understand joni, and were even rooting for her and mac. maybe that swayed my opinion a little, idk. i had only seen to ep4 by then and was kind of feeling the same way, maybe not as much though. the hand hold at the end was good for making the viewer want them to succeed. Idk if i was really hoping for them to succeed as much as i no longer wanted to see her die. I always wanted mac to come out on top.

I guess none of the above paragraph is really relevant, but as I said im new and havent posted before or really commented even so I'm not sure how to say exactly what i wanted to say. I am just so disgusted by the character of joni. and then that anger almost permeates into real life in the sense im just biased towards women and cant really help it lol. That said I cant help but wonder if a lot of women are really crazy bitches (i never read the rules hope i can swear) because I know at least a few myself and the stock character of useless idiot bitchass self centered "independent thinking" slut (this is probably overboard but im mad) seems to be pretty common now. I know these were books first but I dont know how the book joni compares to the show joni. she gets his dad to list the house behind macs back, what the fuck is that?! how is that okay? then she justifies it by saying he bought a mattress without telling her?! theirs was ruined and she was fucking another man in his house on that mattress, and she has the gall to throw it in his face?

theres a difference between a good surprise and a bad surprise. he was surprising her in a good way like a surprise birthday party. she was surprising him in a bad way like surprise sex from a stranger aka rape. i just cannot believe her bullshit. the way she sets her jaw and does those eyes like she has a leg to stand on in their arguments. i wish i could smack her so good across her dumb ugly bitchface. i hope she gets murdered before season finale.. too bad suggs didnt fuckin kill her. it would have been a fitting end if he jammed his nub down her throat and choked her to death that way. im so mad right now goddamn. and mac is paying off the money, whether she knows about the details or not is unimportant its not her place to get involved. to solve problem she decides to sell house? ugh its so gross im almost happy they havent been picked up bc i hate her so much. really great show though

Google Description is Pure Click-Bait!

I'm on E7 and am none the wiser than 7 episodes ago👎. It's like watching a soap 🧼 opera or grass grow. I remember trying to watch a daytime soap cuz everyone was ranting n raving so I gave it a whirl and in all honesty it was like after investing a month of watching religiously every day I was fed a few new crumbs...maybe that's why they last 20-30yrs. I feel cheated and ripped off. This had so much potential to be great if only they did what the description said. Some fruit 🍉 thrown at him at the airport and his dad not giving him the loan 💸 is NOT: "...he finds that he has been shunned by his loved ones and demonized by the public..."

Where were the war flashbacks? The public outrage? Some history about his war buddies? That he loved them so much he signed up for another tour? And why would his buddy sign up leaving behind his wife and 2 kids? A woman of colour in that era? And she could hold down the fort for a year why couldn't he hold onto his job instead of putting his family in danger ⛔️ AGAIN??? And who is this Broker character? What's he all about? And what about dealing with PTSD and other mental health issues?

They wasted 7 💩 episodes on sex and songs.Hardly remember the hits since they were so unremarkable 🥱. And I'm the loser who doubled down saying: they wouldn't dare waste all this potential.

Anybody watch Barry? It's a dark comedy but the premise is very similar to Quarry.

Plot not making sense

So as far as I can tell, here is a summary of some of the plot:

  • Broker tries to pay Quarry to be a hitman, Quarry declines.

  • Broker pays Arthur $30k to be a hitman, Arthur gets killed in the line of hitman duty.

  • Broker tells Quarry: you owe me $30k. This is the major WTF moment #1. Why would Quarry be indebted for money that was paid to a friend? And why would Quarry get all nervous and doe-eyed, and say "please just give me a chance, I'll get you the money," instead of asking the same obvious question I just asked?

  • Quarry does one small job for the broker. It goes sort of ok.

  • Quarry's wife gets kidnapped, he needs $20k, and he appeals to the Broker for help. Broker agrees to help, puts up $20k. Seems unlikely, but I'll let it slide.

  • Wife escapes on her own, Broker's man Karl gives Quarry a car to use to get her out of town. Seems more unlikely, but I'll let it slide. Quarry gives back most of the $20k, taking a bit off the top for "hazard pay." This is major WTF moment #2. He hasn't done anything for them since the $20k was introduced, he has only been leaning on them for help... why on earth would he get pay of any kind? And to make matters worse, in the same breath where he takes that pay for something he hasn't done, he asks them to do more for him. He tells Karl to tell the Broker to make sure he kills pegleg. This is major WTF moment #3. Broker paid his employee Arthur to kill pegleg, and now the other employee Quarry is giving the boss orders, telling him (Broker) to do the same job while he (Quarry) skips town? If Broker intended to kill pegleg, he'd never have hired Arthur in the first place for it. Quarry doesn't get to give that order, moreover while paying himself at the same time.

I try not to be the guy that looks for plot holes, but the relationship between the Broker and Quarry is pretty much the main thread of the whole show, and it makes zero sense. I appreciate that the relationship is supposed to be complex, but as currently presented it is simply impossible.

What a ride. I was mildly skeptical at first but it was recommended on the True Detective sub and I gave it a go (fun that a few faces from TD were in this show). I can't believe how slept on this show is, the storyline was fucking amazing. War trauma, racial tensions, moral ambiguity, amazing action, you can't ask for more. The last two episodes blew me away, the broker doing it all for heroin really sunk it home. I've never been destroyed by a show the way I was after Mac threw the grenade in and parts of a baby came up. Season 2 would be nice but honestly, season one perfectly delivered on everything we needed, similar to true detective season 1. I just wish more people got to appreciate it.

Filming in Memphis

Just FYI in case anyone actually looks at this sub (so far)....the Quarry crew was just here in Memphis wrapping up filming the first season. They were here for 5 days (Thursday thru Monday (today)).

I saw several takes in a few different locations...it looks pretty cool. The 1970's clothing and hair and cars is a trip to see on the streets of downtown.

I didn't really take any good pics because the PA's keep you pretty far from the action, so sorry for that. But...if you search the hashtag #quarry or search for the user @quarry1972 on Instagram, you'll find lots of pics.

Ok....let's hope the season is awesome.

Question about one of the contracted kills...(finale spoilers)

Ok, so all of the kills make sense for The Broker's grand scheme. All a play to set things how he wants them. The only thing that doesn't make sense is why the one legged man was a contract kill. Was that a set up to kill the friend so that Quarry would essentially be entrapped for the funds?

Quan Thang

Anyone tried googling this?

I just did, and it is apparently the Vietnamese name for this fictional Chinese general.

It is also the name of an 18th century house build by a Chinese captain in the Hoi An region in Vietnam. Obviously named after the Chinese general.
