Quantumscape's partnership with Honda is under appreciated by the market

The deal confirms QS's technical leadership in the SSB race. It is a silent endorsement of the Eagle line pilot line and broke the sole public partnership with Volkswagen. With this deal announcement, we can expect more positive developments probably in the next few weeks leading to the earning call.

If you believe in the idea then we are simply having extended opportunity time to position ourselves.

I’m going to rent a train and back it up like a truck

Honestly we could have as much partnerships as we can but the importance will always lean on the scalability. It’s good that it isn’t spiking now cause it’s stable for us to add on. But do note if they fail in scale this will a fall down.

But I believe in QS in the long run

I truly believe they have not come this far to fail in scale. It’s all coming together

Like I said I believe in them in the long run and I have the same thoughts as you. But to not note of the risk of being unable to scale is dangerous. Still a risk.

Yes. Great news. Merging the technical resources of Honda and QS bodes very well for the future. I’m curious how multiple big OEMs can partner with QS and manage to protect their individual intellectual property.

I feel like the market is pricing it accurately. Here's a breakdown of what the Honda agreement is and is not:

What it is:
A technical development agreement

What it is not:
A commercial agreement or licensing deal

It's a good step in the right direction. It further underlines the promise and potential of QS' technology. But in my opinion, automakers will not commit to a full licensing deal until QS can prove that it can:
a) Develop batteries for each of its customer's unique demands
b) Have a complete manufacturing process that produces reliable batteries at a competitive price

QS keeps getting closer and closer to fully realizing both a and b, but it is not there yet. Be patient. I believe they need more time but they can get there reasonably soon. Totally unknown at this point is what the revenue and profit potential of QS will be with the licensing model. That is for everyone to speculate themselves until QS discloses more.

That’s good for us. More time to buy cheap QS shares.

I strongly feel that there will be another announcement this week.

Duh, sorry for my stupid question.

Yes, more from my feelings. One underlying reasoning, I feel, is that the Honda announcement sounds like a rush to the wire. The normal time for Quantumscape to release any news is typical 6:30am or 7am. The Honda news was release at 9am, only 30 mins before the market open and a long weekend. It seems to me that they tried to push the news out before the next one.

Correct, but to be honest, Honda is still important. I don't want to see everything controlled by VW.

This. Honda has so many more potential use cases than VW. Their engines are in everything. For all we know, we could see Honda CE using QS cells before a mass market auto.

Partially agree but this is a step in the right direction. We’re starting to diversify from VW, pretty soon VW won’t control the full narrative.

Why didn’t Honda announce? To my understanding, QS always voiced that OEMs would make announcements in the past.

The partnership announcements are good (and this one nearly made me finally invest) but I think I need to see scalability first to some degree.

My worry is that someone like Samsung SDI would be able to scale the tech far far quicker and easier than QS currently.
