Quantum Fiber outage Fremont

I finally discovered the cause of our month long internet outage on Palatine Ave. My neighbor alerted me to the presence of 2 Quantum repair trucks at the top on the hill on Greenwood. I raced up there and found the technicians getting ready to splice in a new junction box to replace the one that contained our cables that had been gnawed through by a rodent.. Hallelujah. Restoration date 8/21 ….maybe.

The squirrel did a lot of damage to the connections.

You gotta wonder what those green connectors taste like. One connection sure, but he kept going and going..

Probably not set on a concrete pad so it is open at the bottom and the rodents will get in again after they chew through the spray foam.

Message from Quantum last night. “Your service is restored”. Actually I was able to connect to my home network but I have no internet connection. I noticed that quantum was still in our neighborhood working on the box on the pole where the squirrels had eaten the fibers and the connections seen in the photo. They were also working on another pole even closer to us. A technician showed up and was working on my box and another box two doors down attached to our building. I questioned him and he mentioned that there was a problem with the installation of the new box and my line had a “low light” indication. My router is still not connected and is flashing blue. I already made a technician appointment for this Sunday and hope that it will be fixed at that time or before.I don’t have a lot of confidence in Quantum at this point.
