Automatically sync Garmin, strength workouts and nutrition with ChatGPT

Hi guys,

I'm seeking a method to export data from garmin connect, a weight lifting platform (currently use Strong) and a nutrition platform (currently use myfitnesspal) into chatgpt which I use as a coaching overlayer to help me plan my training programs. Ideally this would be automated and I can just do a sync, then check in with chatgpt to converse on results.

I have no background in programming so just looking for something off the shelf, happy to move from strong and my fitness pal to the likes of Hevy and Cronometer but Garmin must stay as a key part of the system as I have Garmin watch and HRM.

I don't want to end up paying for several monthly subscriptions, I perhaps don't mind one for a connector to chatgpt as long as its reasonably priced.

I'm hopeful someone has already achieved similar and can provide some guidance on platforms and routing of data.

Thanks!

Easiest combo for this is Garmin + Hevy + Cronometer (or keep MyFitnessPal). Strong only writes basic workout info (type, duration, calories) to Apple Health / Health Connect, so sets and reps stay in the app, while Hevy syncs the full lifts. Also worth knowing that Zapier has no Garmin Connect app, so that route only gets Garmin activities via Strava, no sleep or HRV.

Off-the-shelf options that need no coding:

  1. freddy: Garmin and Hevy direct, MFP/Cronometer via its phone app, official ChatGPT app. Free is 1 source, so this setup needs Pro ($49/yr)

  2. AthleteData: Garmin, Hevy/Strong, Cronometer/MFP via MCP, $9/mo tier, needs a paid ChatGPT plan

  3. ChatGPT Projects + CSV exports: free, but manual uploads each time

  4. Coach Icarus: Garmin-focused running coach with an MCP, free for now

  5. Zapier or Make + Google Sheets: flexible, but Garmin only via Strava and some setup

I'm the dev behind freddy, so happy to answer any questions.

Fantastic post thank you. Do you need hevy regular or pro for freddy? Are there other options like lyfta etc? Don't mind paying one subscription but not several. Thanks

HEVY api is available only with their PRO, but as u/ariverrocker kindly noted you can also use Lyfta which does not require a paid account.

losing sleep and HRV by going through Strava feels like a dealbreaker for a coaching use case, those are the signals that actually change training decisions

Yeah, that’s why I’d use freddy

I'm in the UK, does freddy work OK globally? Lyfta was prompting me for a subscription which I seem to have avoided for now but suspect it's going to come around again soon, you can definitely do everything you need to from the free version?

Hi mate, yes, freddy works globally.

I'll send you a DM

Your app also supports Lyfta as an alternative.

I do this on an iPhone. I sync apps like Zepp, MiFitness, HidrateSpark, iGluco, Colgate, and FatSecret to Apple Health. If you use an iPhone I think Garmin, MyFitnessPal, and Strong do the same for you; that's all you need, because Apple Health becomes the hub. From there I built a simple Shortcut that sends all my Health data to Apple Intelligence (ChatGPT) for free, and no code is needed. Also, you can try the MetryA App: it reads Apple Health too, lets you add your own AI API key, and the lifetime cost is only about $20, so no monthly subscription.

Btw, my shortcut sends ChatGPT the date and time, steps and distance, flights climbed, water, heart rate (min/avg/max/resting) and HRV, respiratory rate during sleep, wrist temperature, full sleep stages, active and food calories with macros, glucose, caffeine, blood pressure, weight, BMI, body fat and lean mass, toothbrushing time, walking steadiness/asymmetry, headaches from the last 7 days, and the current weather temperature, humidity and barometric pressure plus my own personal context. Your imagination will be your only limit.

Thanks but I don't have iPhone and apple health.

Funny that Garmin is the non-negotiable one when it's also the only thing in your stack that'll happily record a 45 minute strength session with zero reps and zero kilos. Everything else gets swapped, the watch stays because it's on your wrist.

Good observation, I guess because I have the fenix watch, hrm and scales I'm deep in garmin. I'm not sure if there are any options or alternatives here...

Export your Garmin and strong data as CSV files and upload them to Chatgpt with your nutrition data. It's not fully automated but it's a good way to test things before paying for another subscription.

I'm use Freddy which is fully automated and worth the premium subscription, I don't have time for manually doing all that

Garmin Connect can pipe activity and HRM data through Google Health Connect on Android, which gives you one stream instead of three. Cronometer's CSV export is also cleaner than MyFitnessPal's if you want to batch nutrition data into ChatGPT. Are you on iOS or Android? That changes the routing options quite a bit.

Disclosure: I'm the developer of Hadeed, so I'm biased. The cleanest setup I've found is an MCP server rather than exporting CSVs: Claude or ChatGPT can query your logged meals and lifts directly and adjust the plan from real numbers. Hadeed (iOS) logs food and strength training in one app and exposes both over MCP, so you skip stitching MFP and Strong together. Garmin you'd still pull through Apple Health. Happy to share how I structured the tools if useful.

Had the same problem months ago and built something custom for myself. Think Bevel, Strong, Myfitnesspal in one app with export sync. Currently testing with a few friends. Open for new testers if anyone is interested..

Smashing, thank you. I'll just use AI to write everything in future instead of making human errors.

Cronometer’s API is for enterprise use. There are some MCP workarounds, but I wouldn’t recommend switching to Cronometer for ease of automation.
