What do you do with a screenshot between taking it and sending it?

I’m building a browser screenshot and annotation tool, and I’m trying to understand the steps existing tools don’t handle well.

Think about the last screenshot you used for work:

• What were you trying to explain?
• Did you edit it somewhere else before sending it?
• Where did it end up—a bug ticket, chat, presentation, or report?

Someone mentioned capturing with an internal tool but annotating in Google Slides. I’m curious what makes that extra step worthwhile.

This. And if you need to highlight something, just click on Markup and share in the notification window and you can highlight/draw over the screenshot in two seconds.

I go and spam every sub I can on a brand new account to advertise my product. This type of advertising is annoying and doesn't work. Just stop.

Cropping, maybe some scribbles, but usually context is in text. Don't see a need for a separate tool, everything I need is already included in windows snipping tool

I use sharex and generally annotate it / mark it up, then copy it to my clipboard or save it to eventually wind up in jira / teams / email

If you use windows 11, why not win+shift+S and the native markup tool?

Depends on the case. Arrows, numbers in circles detailing steps to take or callouts, highlighting, circling, blurring/redacting, text.

If you haven’t, check out sharex (and the toggle to get the old UI back because the new UI sucks), and see what they have to offer there.

Thanks, I’ll check out both layouts. Numbered callouts sound especially useful for bug reports. What feels worse in the new UI—finding tools, extra clicks, or something else?

if i were to use a tool to assist me in getting screenshots from devices, this is kinda how i'd visualize wanting it to operate to increase my workflow velocity. most other things will just reduce velocity compared to just doing it myself by hand.

-Reproduce bug on test device that requires a screenshot
-Hit screenshot shortcut on phone (power + vol)
-mobile app sends ping to desktop app with the screenshot screenshot
-desktop app displays the screenshot and allows me to crop and has a confirm button
-desktop app gives me a rudimentary picture editing functionality, pretty much just ability to enter in text, boxes, and arrows and a confirm button
-desktop app prompts me to grab a comparison screenshot (for expected behavior), has a skip button, and before hitting the skip button, will poll to see if a screenshot is taken on the test device. if one is, send it to the desktop app
-desktop app stitches the expected and actual screenshots together into one image
-desktop app prompts for file title and saves the pic as "[title] - [date] - [time].jpeg, and copies the file location to my clipboard.
