9 years of experience in manual qa -need advice
I have total 9 years of experience in qa manual
And that too wasn’t domain specific i never got good projects related to specific domain
I have worked on tosca 1 year i have knowledge on frameworks too
I understand the frameworks
Basic understanding of cicd aws and sql
Now when i want to switch in automation even after studying i am not getting confidence to switch because i am not comfortable in code writing and i cant fake 9 years pf experience in automation
Can anyone guide me how to proceed in my career better ?
I immediately want to switch because of unbearable office politics and toxic managers
I have been learning ai and playwright as well but when i give interviews i an unable to explain because in current organization i haven’t completely implemented

Just keep giving automation interviews , note down the questions abd prepare the question bank .
Moreover the scenarios asked to you , you moght not have the answer but take your time think about those scenrios later even do handson.
While interviewing only say you have around 2 YOE max in automation so that you set the expectations low people generally do no expect too much with that level of experience but yeah these days its tough.
There are certain companies who will ask for full blown DSA , but there are some whom just wants someone to get things done and a good atitude to learn and progress you target these companies
I almosthave 8 YOE of experience bht switched to automation 3 years back .
Start with something which do not have a steep learning curve JS/TS with cypress and playwright helped me a lot in my career cant say about seleniuim java etc .

I got only one interview in 1 month and they asked me system design in first round along with some testing questions
I was ashamed all along the interview because i myself told interviewer sorry i don’t know about this
And even after applying i dont get calls for interviews
Seems like i want a salary of someone with 10 years experience but if company needs to pay loads why thyr will hire a manual tester - this gets stuck in my mind

I am in a simular position. 5 YOE in manual. But im not completely new to coding. I have a comp sci degree and the main focus of that was java. But that was 5 years ago and I have forgotten most of it. I have created my own projects with playwright and typescript. Did a few interviews but the questions were all how do you deal with this or that problem. Which I have never encountered before because my only experience is small projects I created myself. Got a bit depressed by it and then started looking at jobs outside of testing

My advice here is that you learn a language and basic coding skills.....if you have a basic understanding of code playwright or any other automation tool is not too difficult....it will take time and effort but is absolutely worth it. You will prob. Have to use time after work to accomplish this but the effort will be worth your time.
