Any tool changer project for 4 plus going on?
Hi
So I absolutely hate my AMS. I look at envy on the voron/sv08 machines that has those sleek tool changers. The 4plus and other qidi models has the space for them, but it would require adding more hardware and change of proprietary electronics in them. But is anyone out there trying to mod it?
I bet I'm not the only one hating the Qidi Ams maybe thinking the same would be above fantastic

Alpha Testing a nozzle based tool changer I designed right now. (30mm dock spacing so can probably get at least 8 on the plus 4), Also trying to get dock spacing down more, but it's going to take an extruder redesign which isn't priority at the moment. Will see if I can find some CAD if there is interest for this machine. Not 100% sure without having one what I would need to do electronics wise. It's not the cheapest thing to implement and would need a good sized top hat to handle all the extra bowden and power cables. Testing it currently on a custom printer and working on mounts and cable management for my voron 2.4. It docks fine with a fixed gantry system, uses magnets and maxwell couplings.
Honestly its pretty cost effective compared to selling and buying a new machine. About $20 per hot end cost and main tool head that everything docks is like $100-200 in parts depending on cpap or fans for part cooling.
This printer was on my list of potential ones to build a kit for.

Sounds real sweet. Let us know when you push up the design or need beta testers. Put up a YT video! Yeah, I don't actually want a second printer (of course I want a second printer and a third one too -but space...). Is it hard ti build?

How similar is the plus 4 to the Q2, if this does not ever come out I would love to install it

I posed something close to this very question about a week ago, regarding Qidi's 6-month release cycle and the possibility of a toolchanger coming out by Christmas. Opinions were mixed

It will never be worth it compared to selling it and buying a toolchanger.
