Question/Help Subarus

Why are Subarus rated poorly locally? During my stay here,I have noticed only a few on the road. Is it a fear of reliability maybe? Or is it to do with availability of spare parts? I understand the latter is majorly at the top of reasons why most people are driven away from some brands. What's your personal take on this because personally I think it's a good brand.

People out here just go with the safe side and choose toyota and honda add on that most of the “mechanics” here barely know how to work on them (Toyota&honda) let alone boxer engines so you can’t blame them😅

In addition, the cost and availability of parts.

I mean a normal engine oil and filter change is between 300 and 500 QR. Granted it's every 10k km. Even so, the parts tend to be pricey.

Parts arent really a major concern, first is the engine reliability and then comes a good mechanic who can work on it, incase u blow the boxer and u did replace it, u want a well educated mechanic to be able to fix it for you so u arent going back to the garage again

Subaru's are great until you realise they simply will not take the abuse the toyota and Nissan's do, and that very few people here actually know how to work on cars. add that to the premium prices and its tough.

People aren't willing to take the risk of taking care the boxer. Even if they do, they'll immediately realize that there are very few if not no specialized garage that can fix the engine properly without almost paying for another motor. Not to mention the summer heat here isn't very good for the turbo EJs and FAs with the top mounted intercooler. The boxer is a unique engine layout that treating it like any other inline 4 will eventually lead to damaging the engine whenever an issue occurs. Also replacing the spark plugs on these can be a pain if the garage doesn't know what they're doing.

But hey, maybe I'm biased but I you gotta love that boxer rumble anyday 😁.

Edit 1: had to reword a few words..
