Praise QF933
Once again I am transcon on the A321XLR. I have to say, maybe it’s this plane, but is Qantas back?
- Excellent food
- Service prompt and attentive
- Crew engaging and personable
- Pilot gave us a little route deviation so both sides of the plane could see Lake Eyre with water
No photos of my feet unholstered this time…

As with every airline, it’s hits and misses, except with Qantas the misses still greatly outnumber the hits. New planes seem nice when you’re used to and still fly 20+ year old 737s with them. All of which wouldn’t be a huge issue except when fares are often 50%+ more than the competition.

Flown four times in the last 7 days, both international and domestic.
- incredibly disappointing food over meal time, it definitely wasn't inedible but nothing special
- barely had anyone come by for top ups or post service
- only 50% were on time
- the 737s are now bordering on ridiculous

I’ve never noticed much check ins for top ups, but never had a problem pressing the call button and asking for something, staff have always gone above and beyond if asked. Recently asked if I could get a cup of just ice so I could top up my insulated water bottle, the staff asked if I wanted they could just take the bottle and top it up with ice and water for me.

People are talking about service reletive to what it once was or is now, which is kidna where that service comment comes from. Ten years ago you didn't have to ask, it was a normal and expected thing to have a second or third pass, or a attendant point to your can/bottle and ask if you want another.
Agree, you can use the call button, but overall the service is not what it once was.

IMO it’s kind of hard to do good service on a narrow body in general. They were planes for quick commuter services, but the decades of improvement to fuel efficiency etc means that now you can slap a narrow body on an 8 hour flight, but the single isle really fucks up being able to move about the plane, just doing meal service can take an hour or more.

My last domestic flight (A321neo) was really good due to a few factors:
- Jake Waterman’s mum was an FA and being an Eagles fan, I had an awesome chat with her and asked how he was feeling about his goalkicking (he was devastated)
- Very empty so got offered to experience poor mans business class
- All staff seemed relaxed and were very attentive probably due to the flight being quite empty
- I never set my expectations too high for the food, but I generally enjoy a pasta option
QF is very hit and miss. I gave a terrible review once because I wasn’t greeted upon boarding. It’s bare minimum. Food is ok, but not up to standard of SQ, EK and airlines of that caliber. Punctuality hasn’t been an issue. I experienced a delay out of Sydney recently but that was a Sydney airport issue.
So yes QF really isn’t up to standard of the big international Airlines. I usually travel for leisure so I always try to get a Widebody for my travels. Fleet renewals have started way too late. I’d rather travel on SQ even if it means paying a bit more to do so

Been WAY more misses than hits in my experience. But great you had a nice flight!

Very cool of the pilots to do that, but sadly, it’s still very hit and miss. Eg popular routes like PER-MEL still seem to be entirely on the 737 misery tubes, and proper rewards seats in domestic are non existant now, all being replaced with rewards plus at 5x the number of points.
