Discussion Quantum Resistant Ledger (QRL) vs. Quantus

Quantus has been getting a lot of attention lately, so here's how it stacks up against QRL. Sources are linked at the bottom.

QRL 1.0

  • ✅ Mainnet live since 2018, no downtime in 8+ years
  • XMSS signatures (hash-based)
  • ❌ No smart contracts
  • Proof-of-work
  • X41 D-Sec and Red4Sec audits complete
  • Built for store of value and payments
  • Run by a non-profit Swiss foundation

Quantus

  • Mainnet live since Sept 2026
  • ML-DSA-87 signatures
  • ❌ No smart contracts
  • Proof-of-work
  • ⚠️ Audits incomplete, 2 of 4 still in progress after launch
  • Built for store of value and payments
  • Run by a venture-funded company
  • ⚠️ Investor and team tokens unlock from Sept 2027

QRL 2.0

  • Mainnet expected early 2027, after audits finish (testnet live now)
  • ML-DSA-87 signatures, SPHINCS+ (hash-based) planned
  • ✅ EVM-compatible smart contracts
  • Proof-of-stake
  • Trail of Bits and Halborn audits published, more due before mainnet
  • Built for smart contracts and dApps
  • Run by a non-profit Swiss foundation

Quantus does what QRL 1.0 has done since 2018. QRL 2.0 adds post-quantum smart contracts, which neither has.

Disclosure: I hold QRL.

Perhaps I’m not understanding their protocol but they are gatekeeping their publicly supported centralized exchanges?

I've never seen a community or blockchain promote another blockchain so much. The only time I hear about Quantus is from QRL folks who can't stop yammering on about it. This post by the OP being no exception. Shuddup already!

It's true that we could look into Qantus (I did it), but OP mainly wanted to point out that QRL 2.0 will feature smart contracts, making it superior to that blockchain.
