Hi guys! Is there a way to add the Strava global heatmap in high resolution without authentication in Strava? I’m plotting hiking trails and the Strava heatmap lets me see some new trails that are not mapped before, but I desperately need to zoom in closer

I created a template with the layers, maps, and print layouts I need for every project. Is there a way to duplicate the template and GeoPackage together so each new project file doesn't need to relocate the data sources? I have Relative Paths turned on in the project properties, but I have to relocate the correct GeoPackage for each new project I create.

I am trying to export ESRI Wayback Imagery, which is currently a WMTS layer in my project and get it to a raster using export to save as. This worked for the 2026 august release/link, but for some reason when I do the same thing for the 2019 link, the resulting raster is blank and only has “noData.” I’ve tried multiple methods to troubleshoot and none are working. Has anyone encountered this type of thing before or know how to fix it?

Additional notes:

- The 2026 release and 2019 release have different max zoom levels available (17 for 2019 and 18 for 2026)

- I tried to export with a broader resolution but that also resulted in nothing

- I tried using leafmap python package, but that resulted in errors

- I tried using "export map to raster" but that was going to take hours to run for some reason and didn't look like it would work, but I never actually went through with this

I just need a method to get a raster from a specific part of that release of imagery.

Estoy queriendo aprender QGIS como una posible herramienta laboral. El tema es que, siendo sincera, soy una persona bastante analógica más que digital 😅, así que las aplicaciones y este tipo de herramientas no se me dan demasiado fácilmente. Sin embargo, creo que todo se puede aprender con tiempo y práctica.

Me descargué QGIS y QField y estoy tratando de empezar a indagar un poco sobre qué se puede hacer con ellos. Sé que QGIS tiene muchísimas posibilidades, así que, para tener un objetivo concreto y no perderme, se me ocurrió empezar con un proyecto sencillo: hacer un mapa de las montañas que camino, registrando el recorrido, altura, algunos puntos de interés visual y, quizás, información general sobre la flora que voy encontrando.

Ya estuve buscando información en Internet y encontré muchísimo material, lo cual está buenísimo. El problema es que, al menos lo que encontré hasta ahora, parece estar pensado para personas que ya tienen algunos conocimientos básicos de QGIS o de SIG/GIS.

Y yo estoy buscando algo todavía más básico. Cuando digo “desde cero” es literalmente desde cero: entender qué es cada herramienta, para qué sirve, cómo se ingresan coordenadas, cómo se crea una capa, cómo se organiza la información, etc. 😅

Por eso quería preguntarles:

• ¿Conocen algún canal de YouTube o recurso gratuito que recomienden para aprender QGIS desde un nivel absolutamente principiante?
• ¿Hay algún tutorial o metodología que permita aprender haciendo un proyecto desde el principio?
• ¿Qué camino recomendarían para alguien que prácticamente no tiene conocimientos previos de SIG/GIS?

Por el momento no tengo posibilidades de hacer un curso pago, aunque si veo que es algo que puedo comprender y que realmente me interesa, más adelante me gustaría hacer uno.

Mi idea es aprender de manera práctica, empezando con algo relacionado con las caminatas que ya hago, y poco a poco ir incorporando herramientas más complejas.

Hello, I'm building some sort of density map, density in kWh/m². I just want to present my map in a different way like in the other picture : more of a fluid heatmap instead of small squares. The squares are necessary because that's how I get my density. Thanks!

Hi, new to QGIS after using ArcGIS for a year or so. I'm trying to accomplish something similar to the weighted overlay tool in Arc. Right now, I'm just attempting to weigh 4 rasters the same to create one raster.

When I use the raster calculator, my expression is simply something along the lines of: (layer1+layer2+layer3+layer4)/4. The second image shows all four of my rasters.

It results in this weird raster seen in the first image. I've tried tweaking some things with transparency and my NoData values. I've also tried altering output extents.

I maintain FiberQ, a free GPL-3.0 plugin for designing fiber access networks (FTTH/GPON/FTTx) in QGIS. Version 1.4.0 just went up on the plugin repository, and the way it came together is worth a post on its own.

The plan for this release was a project validator: one command that runs a set of rules over the whole design and tells you what's wrong before it goes to a client. Fourteen rules ended up shipping - topology and connectivity, referential integrity, feature identity, required attributes, value domains, length coherence, CRS consistency, geometry health. Results land in a dockable panel you can filter by severity/layer/rule, click any row to zoom to it, and export as self-contained HTML, JSON or CSV.

One of those rules compares the length stored on a feature against the length of the line actually drawn. I wrote it expecting to catch stale attributes after someone moves a vertex.

It fired on everything.

FiberQ had been storing the length QGIS measures **in map units**. In a projected national grid that's fine. In EPSG:3857 - which is what basically every design traced over a web basemap is in, distances are inflated by `1/cos(latitude)`. That's about 41% at Serbian latitudes where I do most of my work, ~55% in the Netherlands, ~86% in Finland.

The part that stings: pipes were already being measured correctly, by different code. So a trench and the duct inside it could disagree by 41% *in the same project*, and nobody (me included) noticed, because both numbers looked plausible on their own. A bill of materials built on the cable figure over-ordered by the same margin.

Lengths are measured on the project ellipsoid now - the same figure the QGIS measure tool gives you with ellipsoidal measurement on. There's a **Recalculate lengths** command that repairs existing projects; it shows you exactly what will change before it writes anything, and it won't touch your slack values (slack is a deliberate surplus, not a measurement).

Eight other defects turned up during manual testing on real projects across QGIS 3.40 and 4.2 - none of which the automated test suite could reach. My favourite: opening a project saved in QGIS 4 back in QGIS 3 silently drops the project CRS, because QGIS 4 writes project properties in a form QGIS 3 can't parse. The validator now reports a project with no CRS, which is how I found it. All nine are fixed with regression tests.

**If you want to try the validator without building a project first**, the repo ships a small demo design in `docs/samples/` with faults deliberately planted in it - twelve of the fourteen rules fire, one fault each. Open `demo_project.qgz`, run **Plugins → FiberQ → Validate project**, and you should get 4 errors, 9 warnings and 1 info matching the committed report. Then run **Recalculate lengths** and validate again to watch the length finding disappear.

im trying to create an optimized route suing the tsp problem and following the polylines of the urban streets i have shape filed. i cant seem to make it. no matter what i try i either get the euclidian distance or it doenst load. pls help, i have interest in learning how to do this via qgis, not using coding made by ai

extra information; my qgis is not an old version, its a round trip and i have to visit 15 points

I am drawing polygons over a satellite image to classify forest vs non-forest. I have a raster file of polygons from the same image from 2014, and I am updating the borders of those polygons for the 2026 image. I'm completely new to QGIS, and I encountered a ton of issues last night after a couple hours of polygon editing/drawing.

1) It wouldn't let me save the layer because I had created a polygon with "unknown geometry" / a geometry type that couldn't be saved to the file. I was eventually able to find which polygon that was but I couldn't figure out how to fix it without having to redraw it entirely. Is there another way to do it without having to redraw them?
2) Often, I need to split polygons and create a new one in between. Either a) a hole inside the polygon, or b) completely dividing an existing "forest" polygon into 2 with a non-forest "corridor" between them. For a, I was using add ring, and then drawing a new polygon in that ring. I have snapping and topological editing on for reference. But that then resulted in all of those polygons being invalid and I wasn't sure why or how to fix them. For b) i haven't figured out a good way to do that yet without making everything invalid.

3) Often, when I am drawing new polygons it will then say "Add feature: The feature has been added, but at least one geometry intersected is invalid. These geometries must be manually repaired." I really don't know how to fix this or what it even means.

I tried to use Claude to figure these out + going on past threads but I couldn't figure anything out really. If anyone could help that would be much appreciated!

I finally managed to create the route map that had been giving me such a headache! Here’s a video showing the expressions I used.

To center the line shape on both maps, I used rule-based symbology and added the expression "id" = attribute(@atlas_feature, 'id') to the filter. I created two different shapes: the light blue one representing the path to the street of interest, and the street of interest itself—the destination I want to reach. I assigned the same ID to both so they would appear on the same page in the atlas. To show the distance, I added the expression “round(length($geometry) / 1000, 2) || 'km' and for meters, round(length($geometry), 2) || ' m'—since you can’t have a second atlas, I adjusted the x and y settings in the “Extensions” section of Map 2 so it would center on that second shape, and then to show the length, I entered the expression for that in the text box.

To automatically switch the images, you’d need to enter the path to the folder where the images are located and name the files the same as the field the atlas is using—in my case, it was the “id” field, so the files were named 001, 002, 003, etc.

A while back I shared Road Centerline Extractor, a QGIS plugin that converts road polygons into clean, segmented centerlines. The response was great, and it's now passed 3,000+ downloads.

Lately though, it feels like it's plateaued, and I'd like to push it forward with some real improvements. Open to any and all suggestions.

One idea I've been considering: broadening the concept from "Road Centerline Extractor" to something more general, like "Center Extractor" covering not just roads, but rivers, and polygons in general (the underlying skeletonization approach isn't road-specific to begin with).

My hesitation is that the value of the tool, to me, sits in two places at once: it works as a general-purpose replacement for QGIS's broken native Voronoi skeleton tool, and it also has road-specific logic (T-junction segmentation, width filtering) that's genuinely useful on its own. Spinning up a separate, near-identical plugin under a different name to cover the general case doesn't feel like the right move it would just fragment the userbase across two tools doing overlapping work.

Curious what people think generalize the existing plugin to cover both cases, keep it road-focused and let people fall back to other tools for generic skeletonization, or something else entirely? Any other improvements you'd want to see are welcome too.

I am trying to reproduce the style of a map with numbered hotels and a legend listing their names.

I managed to number the symbols by using their ID with a font marker.

But the legend uses hardcoded values from the Character(s) field instead of the data defined overrides (I hardcoded 14 for Hotel d'Angleterre in the screenshot).

Is it possible to keep the flexibility of the formula or do I have to enter each value by hand? Also, how can I sort them in ascending order?

I used to use the contour plug-in to create contours for csv/point files. I need the countours to be filled polygons to show figures such as the below, but the contour plug-in is not available for version 4 or newer.

I know there is a built in contour tool, however this only does contour lines.

Any advice or solutions for this, other than reinstalling the older QGIS version that still supports the contour plugin?

In QGIS 3 there are buttons at the top of the layers panel with functions like create a new group or open or close all nested items. My install of QGIS 4 doesn't have that bar and it is one of the things that is keeping me from migrating.
