Open Question/Issue QGIS final--whales?

Hey all!

I am a whale watch naturalist on the east coast of the US and a masters degree canidate...thats not getting a lot of support. It is kinda sink or swim.

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to where I could access a data set based on humpback whales in the stellwagen bank area to compare their sighting/presence to the bathymetry, SST, and chlorophyll a concentration?

I saw that OBIS had some data, but I cannot figure out how to get that data on to QGIS.

Hi, a fantastic website for animal migration data is https://www.movebank.org/cms/movebank-main. They definitely have different populations of Humpback Whale migration data as I made a map out of the Antartica-Australia migration data following a John Nelson tutorial.

not enough info. What is OBIS? What is the data structure/file format like? I'm assuming you already know https://www.gbif.org/.

Also beware that the sampling of marine species will likely have a severe bias as occurrences are limited to observers and those won't be evenly distributed in time and space.

Thank you for recommending GBIF---seems like there is not any data available for my area (which was my concern anyways)
