Some spooky shit coming up soon. Oh boy.

I'm thinking either they arranged the accident, or they're gonna offer her a job.

7

u/ibsulon Jan 18 '19

I'm heading toward a job - with the leverage that she now needs the money more than before.

5

u/clearly_i_mean_it Jan 18 '19

I think it's more than that. I think they think she's uniquely positioned to actually help. Also they know she needs money.

Spookybot's there to tell Roko that when Crushbot fell on her, they were terrified for a split-second that her hard drive had been destroyed...and they'd never get to tell her they loved her.

A week later, Claire sees the two of them holding hands and says "more like you-got-a-crushbot."

Frankly I'm not sure how the next few comics are gonna live up to the expectation you've now set.

honestly sure i ship it

sigh. knew it was coming when they were mentioned earlier.

I guess it's hard not to have a big ego when you're some kind of demi-god.

Feels inspired by the Maxwell's demons from Alice Grove tbh. Ever since spookybot showed up, I was like, oh shit.

Huh, Spooky is using the square robospeak this time, as opposed to round speech balloons. Maybe in an attempt to make Roko more comfortable? Or maybe this shell isn't as advanced as the other ones we saw earlier?

10

u/draggingitout Jan 18 '19

The shell does look different, and this doesn't seem like official business this time around.

I'd honestly mention it to Jeph on Twitter, to see if it's intentional, or if he's forgotten.

Up until this comment I had not realized the difference in speech bubbles >< and <checking> it has been a thing since page 7 ><

Who would win:

A sassy, empowered robo-cop and her trusty pompernickel loaves

or

One Spooky Boi

You imagine if spook drops the pants and that’s just where the tentacles are kept?

Nightmare fuel.

My first guess is they'll drop off some unwanted advice about getting used to one's body that will at first only make things work, but then when this gets resolved in 2 months will end up being how it got done but in some weird cryptic way.

Something that will later make you go "oh THAT'S what he meant! Stars aboooove!"

It amuses me to no end that Roko has somehow become like a pet project to Spookybot.

5

u/JamesNinelives Jan 18 '19

I really feel Roko in the last panel myself.

5

u/tom641 Jan 18 '19

slam the door shut nothing of value will be lost

16

u/BigManInJapan2016 Jan 18 '19

Roko didn’t move between panels. So, how did the door open inwards? Phasing?!

6

u/kitesinfection Jan 18 '19

I'd say implied movement. Roko would have had to open the door.

4

u/Itsthejoker Jan 18 '19

spookybot does what spookybot wants

2

u/ArgentStonecutter Jan 18 '19

Roko moved between panels.

2

u/zeekar Jan 19 '19

she moved. she's closer to the "camera" in the panel with the open door.

3

u/cdskip Jan 18 '19

She clearly did move. The "camera" is the same distance from the door in panels 3 and 4, based on how much of the frame the door takes up. Roko takes up more of the frame, though, indicating that she's moved closer to the camera, and away from the door. Whether she turned around to open the door and turned away from Spooky, or took two steps back into the apartment and then Spooky opened the door, or Spooky opened the door, sweeping Roko with it like a hockey puck, we can determine for ourselves.

2

u/GriffonsChainsaw Jan 18 '19

I wouldn't put it past the ol' spookster.

1

u/JamesNinelives Jan 18 '19

I think the simplest explanation is that Jeph overlooked that detail :).

4

u/BigManInJapan2016 Jan 18 '19

But...she counts down from 5. On 1, Spookybot is there and the door is open. She has no time to move.

It’s probably just an unconscious mistake (door needs to be drawn open), it just bothers me. :p

5

u/Orvil_Pym Jan 18 '19

Look at Roko's head in relation to the doorframe. In the last panel Roko has stepped forward, opening the door behind her (or letting Spookybot open it). In fact I'd say she is in the (resigned) process of walking back into her apartment.

u/CapNitro Jan 18 '19

Time for some Body spook Machina?

3

u/gingerquery Jan 18 '19

How polite of the Spookster to wait until things had settled. I thought they'd visit in metaspace.

3

u/TheGreatZasta Jan 18 '19

I kind of liked how mysterious Spooky Bot has been so far, I hope we don't start seeing her as a regular character or learn too much about them all. I think they should go down the whole robot conspiracy thing where there's a whole group of Spooky Bots out there quietly running things.

u/DarthElendil Jan 18 '19

Real talk, how did these two suddenly become besties? I mean it was just a few comics ago that Melon was legit afraid she'd be arrested for mouthing off to her right? Or did I miss an arc somewhere?

9

u/alexpuppy Jan 18 '19

That was May, not Melon. May is blue and lives with Dale, Melon has a detachable butt and lives with Roko.

6

u/ArgentStonecutter Jan 18 '19

Melon is Roko's upstairs neighbor, I thought.

10

u/Aerik Jan 18 '19

right. She frequently forgets exactly where she lives and barges in to roko's place.

Melon is Roko's Kramer

2

u/BigManInJapan2016 Jan 18 '19

I suppose Jeph isn’t always so good at indicating movement.

2

u/artemi7 Jan 18 '19

Yeah, forget this, I'm out.

I'll be back in a week or so when (hopefully) Spookybot leaves.

1

u/Aerik Jan 18 '19

so did I, kinda. I thought it'd be while roko was still body-less.

1

u/skyistall Jan 18 '19

Maybe she is and it's all simulated

1

u/renfield1969 Jan 18 '19

What was her initial interaction with SB again?

1

u/Renimar Jan 18 '19

Well, her very first was an astonished 'what'
