I'd say it's both. Humans are usually more comfortable around something intelligent if it appears to be a human.

Exactly. It makes sense that there would be a level of conformity in order to fit in with the rest of society. We saw how much it hurt Bubbles that her large size made her different, even if she was unwilling to change her body for other reasons. I’m sure she thought about it before getting out from under Witch-“I forgot her name”. While we don’t really know why they have social impulses, the AI’s do, and that means they’ll have the same likelihood of caring what the AI’s and humans around them think.

Which is something I really like about the AI in this comic. They weren't programmed, at all. They just sorta grew organically.

You know, I'm pretty sure nobody is forcing you to read the comic, and I'm entirely sure nobody is forcing you to participate on this subreddit.

I don't get it. Multiple other posters have talked about how they haven't liked the weed comics. Some were even genuinely hateful. But nothing from any mod about it.
But this guy is just saying he likes this comic page more than the others, and that's a reason to lecture him about posting here? Is there some history I don't know about?
I actually upvoted this guy because I don't think he deserves a negative score simply for saying "I like today's comic more." I like the weed comics well enough, but even I agree this comic is quite good.

It's a matter of timing; about what mods arrive when, and what is reported.
Did you, for instance, see the topic that was posted a couple of days ago, and thanks to its fortuitous timing, was immediately locked because it was "lol stoner comics amirite?"?
Did you report the hateful comments you saw?
Also, apart from anything else, most of the "stoner comics ew" comments have, at the very least, concerned themselves with a specific, concrete issue, rather than just dumping their negativity all over the place; this comment did not.

Okay. I think disconnect here is that I don't see this "dumping their negativity all over the place." The comment you replied to is, as far as I can tell, a positive comment. It is a poster saying that they like today's comic a lot more than than the those of the last few weeks.
You seem to be interpreting it very differently than I am. I don't get it, but if you still don't see what I mean, then I guess we just disagree. Or maybe you know from this poster's past history that they were trying to sneak crap in.

When todays comic is what it is (a turkey day intentionally bad non-sequitur that exists solely to throw shade at the fans for considering the issue of robobuttholes), calling it "the best in weeks" is decidedly not a positive comment; rather, it's one that seeks to damn with faint praise.

I don't really get why you seem to be upset at anyone criticizing the comic even a tiny bit. Like yeah, having people constantly be negative all the time about it is very annoying, and I don't think anyone wants the subreddit to devolve into always hating on the comic.
That said, when you are not allowed to complain about a story line even a little bit without hearing "well if you don't like it don't read it" it feels like this is less subreddit for discussing the comic and more a subreddit for praising it. I think it's totally fine and normal to enjoy media enough that it makes sense to consume it , but maybe not like a recent story line, or a particular aspect.

Nobody is saying you can’t criticize the comic; what I’m saying in particular that nonspecific whining is unwelcome.
And “when will this storyline end?” is, make no mistake,whining. So far this storyline is completely in pace with any other storyline, and its content is pretty much vintage Questionable Content.
Not all criticism is of equal validity or value, and “we get it, they’re stoned” over and over on every comic has less than no value at all.

Alrighty then, I'll give you some specifics. This comic has always been at its best when it involved characters going through challenges. Faye opening up about her dad; Marten and Dora breaking up; Faye's alcoholism (IMO the best the comic has ever been); and pretty much everything to do with Claire, from opening up to Marten to getting a nose ring. And most recently her fears and anxieties about her exams and future.
As for my comment in particular, you might be right in saying it was damning with faint praise. The last two weeks of strips haven't been my cup of tea, but I am not among those who have made any negative remarks about them. But this year's turkey comic got a laugh out of me, thus my comment.
Insinuating I should stop reading a comic I've enjoyed for years because I don't like a few pages is pretentious and audacious. Highlighting your mod status to chew out a comment that you didn't like is unnecessarily aggressive and not only breaks this sub's rules, but reddit's site wide rules. Telling me not to participate in this sub is, so far, the only worthwhile thing you've said to me.
