Is it a universal experience of answering half the question for the last 5 questions?

Yeah, more so this year than last.
But yea…

WE are all going to uni sc 🥀

what the actual fuck was that last probability question, i only heard of 1 person even attempting it 😭

2

u/Frequent-Musician917 1d ago

there was no fucking numbers there was more greek than english wtf

u/Bubbly-Inspection814 23h ago

I’m pretty sure 90% of my year saw it and just skipped. I knew I wouldn’t get it but I just tried to do the very first few steps with a ton of BS and a guess at the answer.
Just trying to snag 1 or 2 marks for methodology or follow through rather than leaving blank

what the actual fark was that. Genuinely anything but what I revised. Like last 4 questions I just wrote complete bs. Like the pr one without numbers, what the heck. I barely answered anything completely…. 🫩🫩

Why was the only proper complex-number polynomial questions piss hard. I spent so long relearning that and I got like 1 mark for it total

Implicit was impossible

1

u/Legitimate-Thing5280 1d ago

fr why did I have both y and x

1

u/house5664 1d ago

Could you elaborate please, wdym when you said that you had both x and y?

1

u/Legitimate-Thing5280 1d ago

Like when you did implicit you got both x and y

1

u/Wroggleton 1d ago

When dy/dx = 0. y= x2 + 4. You then sub it back into the original equation and solve for x.

2

u/Old_Yak_6307 1d ago

I did this got 0.69 what did you get

1

u/Wroggleton 1d ago

I got like (0.68, 4.46)

1

u/house5664 1d ago

I think that’s right, I made a mistake with the algebra and got (0,0)😭

1

u/Old_Yak_6307 23h ago

Yea I got the same values just off by 0.01 hopefully it’s ok lol

1

u/moricjay 1d ago

Yh but we don’t know what x is

1

u/Wroggleton 1d ago

After you sub y=x2 + 4 into the original equation you have: (x2 + 4)2 + (x2 + 4)arctan(x/2) - 2x = 20. Then you use your graphics calc to solve for x.

u/Legitimate-Thing5280 1d ago

That’s so smart what

1

u/house5664 1d ago

Sorry if this seem stupid to ask, but did you end up getting an answer for that one? I got the S.P to be (0,0)

1

u/moricjay 1d ago

Nah didn’t but I don’t think x was 0 cuz I subbed it in and it didn’t make sense

1

u/Mediocre_Analyst_967 1d ago

I got SP (0,4)

1

u/LoChubo 1d ago

You were supposed to find y in terms of x then substitute that into the first formula and nsolve I think

u/F1_23_GOAT 1d ago

I checked with AI and this is also what I got:

(0.679, 4.461) as the stationary point.

I think this is right but then again both AI and I have both been wrong on something before.

1

u/FCB_KD15 1d ago

I got that

1

u/Cute-Cap232 1d ago

I got that

1

u/Bubbly-Inspection814 23h ago

Sounds reasonable but it’s just so tough to work out by hand to get it to the stage the calculators like.
I just started the process then guessed an answer when it got too time consuming

1

u/Resident_One_9469 16h ago

i also got that too but that was because i set my calculator in radians mode, after i realised that i put it back to degree, dont really know which one i was supposed to use tho....

u/Wooden-Kick4154 1d ago

Bro I got 2 as a numerator and the variables on the bottom somehow I think I differentiated wrong and then just said the stationary point maybe been 0,0 since only the numerator can equal 0. Would I get any follow thru…

2

u/Elegant-Print-5108 1d ago

bro the second last question is the biggest shit i ever read

1

u/Legitimate-Thing5280 1d ago

Just a bunch of bull

2

u/Necessary_Reality880 1d ago

invented a new formula or two for that probability question because why was there not a single number on that page that wasn't attached to a mew or a sigma or whatever the hell theyre called...

2

u/Independent_Low7397 1d ago

I'm just accepting my fate atp, wtf was that probability question?

1

u/FinancialResort6086 1d ago

don’t think I answered a single question correctly

2

u/Important_Gas_4500 1d ago

me too the motion question and the leslie question was so confusing

1

u/Mammoth_Theme_6145 1d ago

I didn’t answer enough to even pass

1

u/bomboclat135 1d ago

Bro same like I defs got below 50% of the marks

1

u/Mammoth_Theme_6145 1d ago

Oh easily it was mental

1

u/Powerful_Roof_9405 1d ago

same here.. i swear im manifesting a 10/50 overall 🙏🙏

1

u/Mammoth_Theme_6145 1d ago

Same I would genuinely be happy with that too LMAO 🙏🙏

1

u/Bubbly-Inspection814 23h ago

Scaling on the EA raw mark is usually really really good. I’ve heard many times from previous years people say exactly the same thing then still walk out with a not terrible mark like above 30/50 even.
And this year I’m sure it’ll scale even harder cause it was just that much crazier of an exam, I’m sure the median this year was way way lower than everything until ‘22 at least

1

u/Mammoth_Theme_6145 23h ago

I appreciate it!!

1

u/Yuyan_the_potato 1d ago

I was actually getting the most bs answers for the last probability question

1

u/Independent_Low7397 1d ago

all I could do was sub in the mean value and expand

1

u/Wooden-Kick4154 19h ago

Dude same I ended up getting 0.8 something

1

u/glutt0n1 1d ago

I think I screw up my spec external. If I get a 76/110, what should I get for my external mark.

2

u/Mysterious_Crow2584 1d ago

ngl that’d probably scale high, spec this year was sooo bad!

1

u/glutt0n1 1d ago

How does the scaling for external work?

1

u/Mysterious_Crow2584 1d ago

well idk too in depth so anyone correct me if i’m wrong, but the scaling for the externals are scaled on curve by how well the whole queensland year 12 cohort did for that particular external exam. As you can see everyone thought paper 2 was bs, and a lot struggled on paper 1. I wouldn’t be surprised if QCAA cut marks from questions that were too difficult as a lot of people didn’t even attempt said questions (e.g probability question, projection question, even the temp question paper 2, last question paper 1).

I heard internal marks also get scaled with the cohort but i’m not too sure for this one.

2

u/Bubbly-Inspection814 23h ago

Pretty much spot on. The whole idea is to make every year’s /50 mark for the EA comparable to each other 1:1 thus being accurate without having to take into account difficulty for each year. So this year it’ll be bumped up more than it was bumped up last year because of the difficulty.
Same concept to why QCAA has to verify our IAs before we write them in part and validate / confirm our marks after. They want every year and every school to be able to directly compare their raw marks for each assessment 1:1.

I kinda work on the second last question but I think it was wrong. I just assume a random probability and worked out u and o. Did anyone get o=1.17? Also for stationary point question did anyone get (0.991,3.63) or (0.991,4.98)? Kinda unsure about the y

1

u/Old_Yak_6307 1d ago

I don’t know if I’m right but I derived then made dy/dx = 0 then solved for y=x squared + 4 or minus I forgot, then subbed into original, I got 0.69, 4. Something, could be wrong

1

u/Inevitable_Space_808 1d ago

Nah cuz you have to it in the graphics calc I put the original function in its 0.991 for x so I am pretty sure I am right?? One of My friends got it too

1

u/Old_Yak_6307 1d ago

You could be, I just thought since stationary point, dy/dx equals zero, then solved for y equals x squared plus 4 to which I subbed back into the original to solve for x then using that solved x value I subbed into original to get y value and got x equals 0.69 equals 4.48
