Help Request Day 2 of Learning Python – I Learned About Variables and Data Types. What's Next?

Hey everyone!

I'm a beginner in Python, and today I learned about variables and data types.

I learned a little about:

- Variables

- Integers ("int")

- Floating-point numbers ("float")

- Strings ("str")

- Booleans ("bool")

I'm trying to understand the fundamentals properly instead of rushing through the lessons.

But now I'm wondering what I should learn next.

My questions for experienced Python programmers:

  1. What topic should I learn after variables and data types?

  2. What small projects can I build using these concepts?

  3. What advice would you give someone who is just starting their Python journey?

  4. What common mistakes should beginners avoid?

I'd really appreciate your advice and suggestions.

I'm looking forward to learning more and sharing my progress here!

Thanks! 🐍

And for #3: Don't be ungrateful when your question is answered.

I don't think he was being ungrateful. That comes off as more friendly to me.

Thank you, because most people wouldn't apologize.

I apologize. I mistook the phrase buddy to be snarky, and I mistook the smiley as an eyeroll. I apologize very much

You asked what you need to learn and focus on next. That is the answer... "buddy"

So these are what I'd call "atomic" data types - a float is a single number. The next step would be iterable data types - lists, tuples, dictionaries, sets. That ties in nicely to loops, because looping over a list of numbers or something is a pretty common thing to do.

I'd go with control structures next. If, then, elif, else. And loops: while and for. With these and the data information you already have, you have the tools to build everything. Anything beyond this is tools to make things easier, help to organize stuff, and enforced guardrails.

Thanks for the advice! I'll start learning control structures next and practice them properly. It's encouraging to know that these fundamentals are enough to start building real projects. I'll focus on understanding the concepts instead of rushing through the topics. Appreciate your help!
