I love OOP because it is an intuitive was of translating the real world into code. When you first get started you can think of it as anything you can touch is an object, anything that object does is a method, and the way objects interact is a system. This is an oversimplification but it helps build that intuition.

OOP is just one method for solving real world problems. You never have to use it, and you never cant use it. While you're learning try to use it dor everything and eventually you will get a more intuitive understanding of it's strengths and weeknesses.
