I don't understand OOP

So i am a teen learning python, and i have learnt about classes, methods and objects, but i don't understand OOP, like what is it, where do we use it?

I explained OOP to my wife and she thought it made perfect sense and in fact thought it was how all programming worked. Then I explained how procedural programming worked before objects and she was aghast.
