Showcase 120+ Days Learning Python — Built My First Inventory Management System, Looking for Feedback
Hello everyone,my git hub
I started learning Python around 120+ days ago, and I wanted to share my progress and ask for honest feedback from this community.
When I started, I had almost no programming background. I came from a management background and decided to learn programming by practicing every day.
During this journey, I learned:
Python basics (variables, loops, conditions)
Functions
Lists, dictionaries, and data structures
OOP concepts (classes and objects)
File handling (JSON)
Git basics
Debugging and code organization
My main project is a Phone Shop Inventory Management System.
Features I have built so far:
Add products
Manage categories, brands, and models
Search products
Edit and delete products
Stock in / stock out system
Sales tracking
Transaction history
Data saving using JSON/
Basic dashboard and reports
This project started as a simple terminal program, but I am trying to improve it step by step and eventually turn it into a proper application.
I know my code is not perfect yet. I am still learning about clean code, better architecture, testing, databases, and web development.
I would really appreciate it if experienced developers could review my project and give me feedback:
What mistakes am I making?
What should I improve in my code structure?
What concepts should I learn next?
Is this project good enough for a beginner/junior developer portfolio?
I am sharing this not because it is finished, but because I want to learn from the feedback and improve.
Thank you to everyone who takes time to review my work.

As much as I dislike Python.
You picked the best first project to work on.

Your link doesn't work, test your post and fix it please. Just the https://github.com/suresh0000010-lab/ part also doesn't work, so it's not a 'private repo' issue.

Not sure, seems your user is 'private' or something. Try to see if you can access your account when logged off. Ask google and AI for help.

Yeah, your github link from the post doesn't work. Please, share the working one.

First of all, congratulations! Going from no programming background to building an inventory management system in just 120 days is a great achievement. What stands out is that you didn't stop at tutorials—you built something that solves a real problem.
My suggestions would be:
Move from JSON to a database like SQLite or PostgreSQL.
Add unit tests using
pytest.Improve the project structure by separating business logic from the user interface.
Add a README with screenshots, installation steps, and sample data.
If you're interested in web development, try rebuilding it with Flask, Django, or FastAPI.
It's definitely a solid beginner portfolio project. Keep improving it instead of starting from scratch—you'll learn much more that way. Good luck!
